FOCUS GROUP DISCUSSION

TOPIC: WHAT ARE THE FACTORS THAT ARE INFLUENCING STUDENTS TO SELECT THEIR SPECIAL IZATIONS AT CUIM

FOCUS GROUP: - It is a homogenous group of strangers discussing regarding a particular topic with a skilled moderator to lead an open and free flowing discussion. It is a highly versatile and dynamic method of collecting information from a representative group of respondents. 1) PURPOSE OF THE FOCUS GROUP: - To identify the various factors that has impact on the decision of students to select their specialization.

2) SELECTION OF GROUPS: Two groups will be selected. One with work experience and the other without. The group will consist of 6-7 people. We will conduct the discussion for each group at different timings with a moderator and a sub-moderator for each group.

3) OBJECTIVES: To identify what motivates the students to pursue their specialization. To find out whether work experience has an influence in the selection. To find out how aware the students are regarding each specialization. To understand the importance of different services provided by college like orientation, in helping students choose specialization that are fit for them.

4) QUESTIONS: a) Have you decided your specialization? If so, was there any specific reason why you chose that particular specialization? If not, what was the confusion that you had? b) Was your choice of choosing CUIM based on the specializations offered here? If so, how? c) What are your expectations regarding your chosen specialization? d) Are you fully aware of the market conditions and opportunities for each specialization? How do you think market demand can be a determinant in your choice?

e) How do you think, having or not having work experience has influenced your choice of specialization? f) What is your opinion about the orientation program conducted by CUIM to help students choose a specialization? Has it effected your choice? g) How much impact does the new course General Management have on your choice of specialization? As is a new field in CUIM, what is your perception about its market demand and its expected placement package? h) What is your opinion about dual degree MBA? Do you think CUIM should introduce a dual degree course? Please explain? i) Who has guided you in choosing your specialization the most? Parents or Faculty at CUIM?
