Lesson Plan Aliece Lucas s3820722 Topic: Physical Features of Ancient Greece Intercultural Understanding: Students begin to form

an understanding of Ancient Greek society and culture and the way that it varies from the students own cultures, languages and beliefs. Aims (Learning Intention): To broaden the students knowledge and understanding of the physical features of Ancient Greece such as its mountainous landscape and how they influenced the civilization that developed there. Success Criteria: Students will be able to clearly identify historical Greek landmarks. Explore and explain the contribution these landmarks had on society Links to AUSVELS: Domain: History Level 7 Depth Study: 2- The Mediterranean World- Ancient Greece Content Description: The physical features of ancient Greece (such as its mountainous landscape) and how they influenced the civilization that developed there (ACDSEH003) Achievement standards: Students build on and consolidate their understanding of historical inquiry from previous levels in depth, using a range of sources for the study of the ancient past. Location/Setting: Year 7 Classroom with access to a smart board Equipment: Smart board Students require ipads and internet access to gain the use of apps such as iMovie, prezzi, poplet and PowerPoint PowerPoint for introduction of the topic Resources: Biesty's, S, 2008. Ancient World. 1st ed. Oxford: Oxford University Press PowerPoint on Ancient Greece www.ancientgreece.com Introduction Activity: Word buzz: 5minutes (An activity to engage students in the topic) Students all sit in a community circle Teacher gives students a topic such as Ancient Greece and the students go around the circle and say one word that comes to mind (must be relevant) when they think of Ancient Greece. Students can pass by saying buzz. The teacher will brainstorm these ideas on the board for later discussion. Once 3 students have buzzed the teacher will change the topic. Suggested topic changes: Ancient Greece Landmarks, Ancient Greek Olympics, clothing, culture and way of life.

Discussion on brainstorm: 5 minutes: (An activity to explore the topic and prompt inquiry) Teacher will spend 5 minutes discussing the main areas on the board asking students where they got their prior knowledge from and to elaborate on the topics. Body of Lesson: PowerPoint Presentation: 10-15 minutes (An activity to explain new content and develop vocabulary) Students will be presented with a pre-prepared PowerPoint covering the topics of the physical and historical landmarks of Ancient Greek Society and how these landmarks have influenced the culture. Students are instructed to take notes on this using the app pages on their ipads. Research Task: 35 minutes (An activity which students elaborate and evaluate their understanding of Ancient Greece landscape) Students are required to research using their ipads the impact of the sea and mountain ranges of Ancient Greece and how they influence society. They can use any form of ICT media they wish to present this information back to the class. They will given verbal feedback from their peers on the information and presentation Conclusion: 15 minutes Presentation and reflection Students will come back to community circle and present their research to the class If time doesnt permit students will be able to volunteer to show their presentation to the class or the remaining presentations will be shown at the start of the next class. Assessment: Informal assessment: teacher walking around the classroom giving students verbal feedback on their research conducted and suggesting areas to improve on. Peer Review: Peers will give feedback to the students who have presented their research task.

Lesson Plan Aliece Lucas s3820722 Topic: Sporting Events in Ancient Greek Olympics Prac Class Inter-curricular: This lesson is a combined session of Year 7 History (Ancient Greek History) and Physical Education. Aims (Learning Intention): Students will demonstrate their vast knowledge of all sports that were run in the Ancient Greek Olympic Games. Students will be able to demonstrate skills and techniques needed to perform these sports to a high standard. Success Criteria: Students will organize and run their own Olympic games, including preparation of equipment and materials needed to run the event. Students will perform these activities in a safe environment; making sure events are not overlapping. Students can demonstrate a high level of knowledge in a majority of Ancient Greek athletic events. Resources: Ubersense (film students and give them immediate feedback on technique) Activity: Set up: Students will spend 15 minutes setting up the equipment for the events. (Students will be provided with a map of the oval of where events should be set up) Warm Up Activity: 5 minutes The teacher will allocate 2 students to take the warm up- ensuring that both huff n puff is completed and stretching. Running of the event: Students will then be allocated/volunteer to be marshals who will be in charge of individual events. After students have completed events they will swap over and all have a go at marshaling. Students will compete in the following events: 1. 192m running event 2. 384m running event 3. 100m an event that requires the students to run in heavy clothing, helmets and shin and kneepads 4. Shot put 5. Discus

Pack up: 5-10minutes Conclusion: All students will be awarded a certificate for participation in the Ancient Greece Unit. Assessment: Informal assessment: teacher will give students feedback on technique and how they can improve on this using the Ubersense app on Ipad.

Lesson Plan Madeline Schultz s4206012 Topic: Roles of key groups in Athenian and/or Spartan Society focusing on citizens, women and slaves. Intercultural: Students build on their understanding of Ancient Greek society and culture focusing on the roles of different positions of people in the community and the way that it varies from the students own cultures, languages and beliefs. Aims (Learning Intention): Students form and build on their knowledge of ancient Greek society and the roles in which certain society groups undertake. Students build on their knowledge of key social groups such as women, slaves and citizens. Success Criteria: At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify key Spartan groups and distinguishing features that define them. Links to AUSVELS: Domain: History Level 7 Depth Study: 2- The Mediterranean World- Ancient Greece Content Description: Roles of key groups in Athenian and/or Spartan society (such as citizens, women, slaves), including the influence of law and religion (ACDSEH035) Achievement standards: Students explain the role of groups and the significance of particular individuals in society. Location/Setting: Classroom Equipment: ICT- ipads Social Hierarchy Match up Worksheet Toga, Sack, crown, wreath and other materials for role play Resources: www.ancientgreece.com Students will use a variety of resources from the Internet to guide their social class activity. Introduction Activity: Social Hierarchy Match up: 5 minutes (Engage the students in the topic) Students will be given a sheet of paper with photos of Ancient Greek Social Hierarchy on it and they must correctly match the individual to the social class. Body of Lesson: Social Class Research: 15 minutes: (Explore and Explain) Students will be allocated a hierarchical group to research Students are required to investigate and report back to the class the rights and position their class structure held in society. Focusing on their right to vote, freedoms and military services.

Role Play 30 minutes: (Elaborate) Students in allocated groups are to devise a script in which they perceive their society group would behave. Students are to take into account clothing, wealth, food, friendships, professions and family. Students are to work collaboratively as a group and participate to their full ability. If students are having trouble they can use YouTube clips as a starting point. Presentations of the role-play: 25 minutes (Evaluate) Students will perform role play for the class Each group will have 5 minutes to perform Teacher and students will have time to quiz the group on there characteristics. Conclusion/Discussion: Discussion question: (to be emailed to the teacher at the end of class) What have you learnt about your society group? In Ancient Greek times, would you have liked to be apart of that group? What is a positive and negative aspect of belonging to that group? If you have the choice of any of group what would you choose? How do you think these groups would interest in a community meeting? Assessment: Informal assessment: verbal feedback and discussion from the teacher monitoring the groups progress. Taking note of how students work in a group setting, focusing on teamwork and collaboration. Discussion questions: Discussion questions to be emailed to the teacher to gage where the student is at with their learning, and to evaluate if the lesson was a success.

Lesson Plan Madeline Schultz s4206012 Topic: Ancient Olympic sports: Boxing and Wrestling Inter-curricular: This is a combination lesson that encompasses both Year 7 Physical Education and History of Ancient Greece. Aims (Learning Intention): Students develop unique hands on experience of ancient Greek Olympic boxing and wrestling by participating in an incursion provided by the school. Success Criteria: Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of these sports, their involvement in the ancient Greek Olympic games and the skills and technique needed to perform these sports safely and proficiently. Links to AUSVELS: Domain: History level 7 and Physical Education Level 7 Depth Study: 2- The Mediterranean World- Ancient Greece Content Description: The significant beliefs, values and practices of t he ancient Greeks, with a particular emphasis on the Ancient Greek Olympic Games (ACDSEH036) Achievement standards: Students will proficiently perform complex movement and manipulative skills Location/Setting: School Gym Equipment: Gym Mats Mouth Guards Head Safety Gear Resources: Incursion Organization - A professional boxer/wrestler will come into the school and provide a safe instructional lesson on ancient boxing and wrestling. Ubersense App - Use this app to film the students on their skills and techniques and be able to provide them with immediate feedback.

Introduction Activity: Students meet and greet the Instructor: (Engage) Students will meet and greet the instructor and are given time to ask the instructor as many questions about the sport that they feel are appropriate. Students are encouraged to ask questions.

Body of Lesson: Instructional Lesson on Boxing and Wrestling (Explore, Explain and Elaborate) 60 minutes Instructor will incorporate a 5 to 10 minutes warm up Instructor will then spend 30 minutes teaching and defining both boxing and wrestling skills with the students, reminding and enforcing the importance of being safe and responsible at all times. Once instructor feels that all students have mastered the skills and techniques for a safe session of wrestling the students will partake in a 15 minute round robin competition. The scores from the winners will be added to next weeks class on performing in the Ancient Greek Olympic Games. Conclusion/Discussion: Instructor will take a 5 minute warm down and stretch Class and instructor will be involved in the class pack up Instructor will allow for a 5-minute discussion/question time. Assessment: Informal assessment: using Ubersense to give immediate constructive feedback to the students on their skills and techniques. Also provide the students with verbal feedback.
