important dates:

We will be flipping Unit 5, so students will watch short video lessons at home and will complete a Google Doc Quick Check for homework each night. Students math lessons are up, check them out at http:/ /journeywithmrsk.weebly.com/student-math-videos.html The main purpose of Unit 5 is to review the meanings of fraction, decimal, and percent notations for numbers. We will practice turning fractions into decimals and percents, learn the properties of a bar and circle graph, construct bar and circle graphs.

This weeks reading skill is sequencing and the reading strategy is summarizing. We will be reading the story The Fabulous Perpetual Motion Machine. The grammar skill of the week is verb tenses. This week students will be learning the different literature circle roles in preparation for our literature circles that we will do in Unit 3.

Language arts:

The class colonies, Giantland, Redwood, and Goldentown, are racing for wealth points. Last week we learned about longitude and latitude and this week we will draw maps of our colonies. Students will use their map skills and study possible areas to settle their colonies.

!On Monday, November 11th the Elementary school (grades 1-5) will have a book character dress up to celebrate the book fair. Your child can dress up as his/her favorite book character or author on Monday. !Using Spelling City is a great way for students to study their words.
