I have been provided with vast opportunities that have truly provided me with the knowledge and skills needed to become an exemplary educator. To develop these understandings, I have been given the privilege to work with students in elementary and middle school grade levels in both urban and suburban settings. I completed my student teaching at Daniel Axford Elementary where I was given the opportunity to work at an international baccalaureate school. Working within an international baccalaureate program allowed me to develop a strong skill set in guiding students in the reflection process, as well as assisting them in the development of appreciation for other cultures. I was then able to effectively incorporate my acquired skills into my teaching of a second grade class at Chandler Park Academy School. My ability to assist students through the reflection process has allowed them to become more aware of their individual actions and responsibilities. One of my greatest strengths as an educator is assisting students in reaching their full reading potential. I work hard to accommodate for each students individual needs, as well as to assist them in developing a passion for reading. During my student teaching, I implemented an afterschool tutoring program as part of my effort to assist students in their development. Creating a program that offered students additional reading assistance not only allowed me to strengthen the skills of the students, but also permitted me to support my skills as an educator as was able to greatly reinforce my ability to create individualized approaches. My knowledge and understanding from my vast teaching experiences has allowed me to become successful in my self-contained classroom at Chandler Park Academy. I have been successful in my efforts to provide students with a positive learning environment that values and meets their individual needs.
