Scholastic > Resources & Tools http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/ Scholastic Inc. This site is good for teaching childrens literature because it is by a childrens book company. There is a whole section just for resources and tools but even the other sections are helpful, for example strategies and ideas, and student activities. 3. HarperCollins Childrens > Teachers & Librarians > Teaching Resources http://www.harpercollinschildrens.com/ HarperCollins Publishers This site is different from the previous sites because it lists the book titles in alphabetical order with the author and then teaching resource to go along with that specific book. I feel that this is a great and easy way for teachers to get resources for any childrens book. 4. Children's literature : a reader's history, from Aesop to Harry Potter Seth Lerer Chicago : University of Chicago Press, 2008. 385 Pages Seth Lerer here explores the iconic books, ancient and contemporary alike, that have forged a lifelong love of literature in young readers during their formative years. Along the way, Lerer also looks at the changing environments of family life and human growth, schooling and scholarship, and publishing and politics in which children found themselves changed by the books they read. This ambitious work appraises a broad trajectory of influences--including Shakespeare's plays, John Locke's theories of education, Darwin's On the Origin of Species, and the Puritan tradition--which have each shaped children's literature through the ages as well. 3. QUALITIES TO LOOK FOR IN A WEBSITE: 1. Plenty of resources not just a few resources about a few select books. I came across a few of these that were not very helpful. 2. Usually if the site is popular that means that it is a good site to use for whatever it is that youre searching for because a lot of people have used the same site so it must be alright. 3. Easy to find and navigate the site. 4. A known company is usually best to use. Ex: Scholastic. So that you know that the information you are getting isnt false.

5. FREE. If you can get things for free rather than join a membership for a website always go with the free stuff. Some of the free sites are made BY teachers FOR teachers because they want to give other teachers the opportunity to teach to their utmost ability without having to spend money that they dont have.
