Two or more individual interacting interdependent, who have come together to achieve particular objective.

Classification of group
Formal group
A designated work group defined by the organization structure.

Informal group
A group that is neither formally structured nor organizationally determined ; appears in response to the need for social contact.

Command group
A manager and his or her immediate subordinates.

Task group
Those working together to complete a job.

Interest group
Those working together to attain a specific objective with which each is concerned.

Friendship group
Those brought together because they share one or more common characteristics.

Stages of group formation


1. Forming:-The first stage of group formation by much uncertainties about groups purpose, structure leadership etc. Storming:- The second stage is group development characteristics by intra group conflict. Norming:- The third stage of group formation by close relationship & cohesiveness. Performing:- The fourth stage is group development when the group is fully functional. Adjourning:- The final stage in group development for temporary groups, characterized by concern with wrapping up activities rather then task performance.
