Goal #5

Candidates implement appropriate instructional models, strategies, and technologies to enhance the learning of all students.

Artifact Reflection I am reflecting on an artifact from my MAT 726 Technology in Reflective Teaching Leadership class. This is the reflection form I created to represent how I collaborated with the general education teacher to create a power point and then added it to the nearpod app on the iPad. This shows the different strategies and technology to enhance the learning of all my students. NBPTS 1st and 2nd Core Proposition This artifact demonstrates that I can use different strategies in my classroom to increase student academic achievements. This artifact links directly to the first and second NBPTS Core Propositions. It shows that I am committed to my students and their learning. It also shows that I know the subject they teach and how to teach this subject to students.

Artifact and Reflection Form

Name: Tom Andrews Artifact number: 2 Title of artifact: Nearpod Course number and name: MAT726 Technology in Reflective Teaching Leadership Type of artifact iPad app Write a brief description of the artifact This artifact is an app downloaded to every iPad in my classroom. First the teacher has to download the power point to the teachers nearpod account. The teacher then logs onto their nearpod account on the iPad. The students log in under the student account. The teacher will then let the students know the passcode to allow the student to see everything that is up on the teachers iPad screen. Each student follows along and takes notes as the teacher goes through the power point on the iPad. This will let the students take notes at their own pace.

Professional and/or Learner Outcomes Represented by this Artifact The special needs teacher collaborated with the general education teacher to create a power point and add it to the nearpod app. The teacher will use the app nearpod to guide students at their own learning pace. Students will use the iPad to take notes. Planned Artifact: iPad app

Report of Outcomes Attainment My Science 9 class averaged at the eighty percentile on the chapter 3 section 1 quiz. Reflection on the process What does this artifact demonstrate as far as your learning? This artifact allowed me to enhance my students comprehension of the materials by going at a slower pace. This artifact also shows that I can work cooperatively with my co-teacher to plan a lesson. What does it represent in relation to the changes you have made in your classroom? Describe why you chose this artifact.

By using the nearpod app on the iPad allowed the students to go a much more desired pace. This allowed the teacher to make sure that every student understood the material being presented. Link the action research process, these results, the research you used to back your decisions and the program and/or course outcomes.

My science 9 special needs students quiz scores went up from the seventieth percentile to the on eightieth percentile on chapter quizzes. This was a five percent increase from my baseline. I felt that this was a significant increase and I am happy with the results. My co-teacher and I had to put in extra time to plan this lesson but the time used was well spent. Geists article discusses different strategies that were used by giving each student a personal tablet computer. Students found out that these tablets were most beneficial when taking notes. Geist surveyed his class witch received an iPad at the beginning of their college course. One of his students quoted, In the beginning, I was a little apprehensive about using this device but I strongly feel that it enhanced my learning in the classroom (Geist, p.764). Geist also mentions that apps will become the new

way of teaching. Students want the information to be at their fingertips, such as their phone or pad device instead of a laptop or desktop computer (Geist, 2011). Today's students were born in the digital world; new technology is being created every day (Palfrey & Gasser, 2008). This means that the teachers need to change and embrace technology in the classroom (Sawmiller, 2010).

What does this artifact demonstrate about you as a teacher? Link what you found to the NBPTS Core Propositions This artifact demonstrates that I can use different strategies in my classroom to increase student academic achievements. This artifact links directly to the first and second NBPTS Core Propositions. It shows that I am committed to my students and their learning. It also shows that I know the subject they teach and how to teach this subject to students.
