Convection Currents
Cycle When one plate subducts under the other Some of the old crust goes to the surface and other goes through the convection currents (liquid form) The old crust goes to the Mantle then it melts into magma The magma rises up and slab pulls the crust and makes new crust

Layers of the Earth

Form our earth Crust Mantle Outer Core Inner Core Asthenosphere Lithosphere Mesosphere

Crust
2 types of crust oceanic and continental 870 degrees C Oceanic mostly made of basalt Continental mostly made out of Granite Lithosphere Oceanic 8 km Continental 32 km

Mantle
Mantle under crust Thickest layer of Earth About 2897 km 871 degrees C at the top 2204 degrees C at the bottom Made of solid hot liquid rock called magma The mantle holds plates

Outer Core

Inner Core
Connected to the Outer Core Made of iron and Nickel in the liquid state About 1,200 km 2760 degrees C that might reach 5,000 About as hot as the surface of the Sun

How do Earthquakes happen

scientists are not yet able to predict when a E.Q strikes. They do not know when plates are going to move. They can know how strong a E.Q is with a seismometers. Scientist cant get to the mantle witch makes the plates move so they cant predict Scientist are trying to connect with the earths layers to predict E.Q but they cant yet.

Why cant scientists predict Earthquakes?

How does the inside of the earth connect to earthquakes ?

Are tectonic plates connected to any of Earths layers

Yes the tectonic plates are always floating on the mantle Also when the plates are floating on the mantle, there might be a hole between the plates and the magma gets out and forms a volcano

Can earthquakes destroy any of earths surface

They can make big cracks on streets They can cause fires They can crumble down buildings But of course they can do a lot of damage do a city They can make giant buildings collapse and kill people

What should we do before an earthquakes happen

We should get an aid kit Plan somewhere safe when an earthquake occurs Make sure to always to be prepared even though there hasnt been one in a long time Be aware of a siren and then as quickly as possible get to a safe place

What should we do after an earthquake

Proper planning or building design. Homes safer by anchoring large objects. Building location affects earthquake safety. Government agencies can regulate land use near faults and enforce strict building codes in regions of hazard.

Earthquakes change direction when they touch a different material For example if a earthquake strikes in the ocean when it hits land it changes direction Earthquakes start inside the earth so if it start on the mantle and it touches the crust it changes direction

What Pros and Cons Do Earthquakes Have?

There are no Pros Buildings fall Grounds split People die or get hurt Tsunamis Volcanoes

What can we do to prevent earthquake damage?

Dont run Walk fast Make sure everyone is there Watch out for falling buildings Dont be in a car if it is a strong earthquake

Why cant scientists predict Earthquakes?

Why cant scientists predict Earthquakes?

Scientists have Ideas of how to predict put they fail when tried. Scientists cant go so close to the inside of the earth Scientists can predict Tsunamis and Volcanos because a E.Q happens but these natrule disasters dont help to predict.
