Generic Name: Dexamethasone Brand Name: Dexasol Classification: Glucocorticosteroids Route: IVTT Dosage: 5mg Frequency: 8hrs

Indications
Cerebral Edema associated with brain tumor, craniotomy or head injury.

Mechanism of Action
Enters target cells and binds to specific receptors, initiating many complex reactions that are responsible for its antiinflammatory and immunosuppressive effect.

Contraindication
Contraindicated with infection, specially tuberculosis, fungal infection, vaccinia and varicella antibiotic resistant infection, allergy to any component of the preparation use. Use cautiously with renal or hepatic disease,hypothyroi dism,ulcerative colitis with impending perforation, diverticulitis, active or latent peptic ulcer, inflammatory bowel disease, heart failure, hypertension, thromboembolic disorder, osteoporosis, seizure disorder

Adverse reaction
CNS: vertigo, headache, pseudo tumor cerebri, insomnia, intracerebral hemorrhage,rev ersible cerebral sthropy. CV: hypertension, heart failure, necrotizing angitis. Secondary adronocortical and pituitary unresponsivene ss. Fluid and electrolye disturbances. Muscle weakness.

Nursing Responsibility
Let the watchers state the name of the patient. Give before 9am to mimic corticosteroid Take BP before administering the drug. IVF checked and regulated. Administered by slow direct IV injection over 1 minute. Instructed watchers to report unusual swelling of the extremities. Provided clean environment.
