Version 4.0. Updated 12/98

Stator-Resistance Starting Circuit (Tip 15) Category: Integrated Functions Special Hardware Requirements: None Project Example Print this Tip In this example program, a squirrel-cage rotor with short-circuit soft start switching makes the automatic startup of a three-phase induction motor possible. With this short-circuit soft start, the motor starts up with a decreased rotational speed and attains the rated rotational speed only after a certain amount of time. The soft motor startup begins with the ON momentary contact switch at input I0.0. The OFF momentary contact switch at input I0.1 switches the motor off. The motor circuit breaker connects at input I0.2. When there is a motor overload, input I0.2 opens and switches the motor off.
