CURRICULUM
A comprehensive elementary school curriculum includes the core subjects of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies along with physical education, music and art. Each curricular area is based on the Pennsylvania Academic Standards as well as national and/or local standards and is evaluated and revised as needed. Classrooms are electronically linked to make maximum use of current technology. Programs such as Typing Pal, Study Island, and First in Math are integrated into the curriculum to further reinforce skills being taught in the classroom. An orchestra program is available to students in grades three through five while band and choral programs begin in grade four. The exceptional music programs are supplemented by semi-annual concerts and dramatic presentations. Our elementary school library program offers opportunities for collaborative learning. Enrichment and accelerated studies are available to students who possess outstanding intellectual and creative abilities.
LEaRNING SUppORT
An extended-day kindergarten program provides additional support in developing language and preliteracy skills. Students are chosen early in the school year on the basis of various assessment tools. All other kindergarten students attend half-day sessions at East Goshen. Following a statewide model, Response to Instruction/Intervention, a Child Study Team provides support in diagnosing, monitoring, and supplying resources for students in academic, behavioral and/or social areas. The team - which includes the principal, guidance counselor, reading specialists, ELL teacher, instructional coach and psychologist - consults with parents to provide strategies and interventions for students who exhibit academic, behavioral or social concerns. Students who qualify for specially designed instruction, are provided an Individual Education Plan (IEP). A summer program is available for K-5 students who require additional learning support.
