Classroom Management Plan

Philosophy of Classroom ManagementDuring this semester and while planning this classroom management plan I realized how close I am to having my very own classroom. Taking this class, being in a classroom one day a week, and learning about different theorist I now have some idea of how I want my classroom to be ran. Many theorists have played a part in my decision of how I want my class to be ran. In my classroom I also want rules but my biggest rule is going to be The Golden Rule. I like Barbara Coloroso think that this is the most important rule. Nelson and Lott suggested that teachers have classroom meetings. On the first day of school I will hold a class meeting and the students will come up with the rules. While teaching I want to be an example for my students. I want to use all the Yates and Hollomans words of categories to teach my students to learn. I believe students are like all individuals and need to be talked to using these categories to improve their learning and make them feel comfortable in the classroom. Like Fred Jones I believe we need to show our student what to do instead of just telling them. I will incorporate say, see, do teaching in my room. I will tell my students what to do, show them how to do it, and then let them do it on their own. To help them learn William Glasser says we need to make them belong. I agree with him. I can remember myself, when I was in school: the more I liked the teacher and felt like I was part of the class the more I learned and it made me try harder. When I become upset with my students I hope to develop the teaching eye that Linda Albert talks about. I want to be able to give the eye and my students know I dont like their behavior and correct it just by seeing my eye. I also want to use Ginotts I messages and let

my students know how I am feeling. If I become upset because a student is off task I am say something like I am upset because I see you coloring instead of reading your book. I believe using these messages and teacher you students to use I messages will help behavior problems in the classroom. I want my personal motto in the classroom to be Everyone Can Learn. I honestly believe that no matter what a childs circumstance or disability is every one of them can learn. As a teacher it is going to be my job to figure out each of my students and all the different ways that they learn best. Classroom RulesIn my classroom I will have expectations listed. These expectations will be for the students as well as for myself. On the first day of class I will hold a classroom meeting to go over the expectations like Harry Wong suggest. I then will allow the students to come up with the rules they feel they need to meet these expectations. . I feel going over the expectations and letting the students come up with the rules will make them feel like they belong. I will have one rule that will already be posted on my wall and that will be the Golden Rule. This will be our class motto and will be placed on the wall in my classroom for all the students to see. When we all come up with the list of rules we think we need for our classroom I will eliminate them and make them pretty and put them on the wall. Like Wong suggested I will go over these rules and we will practice them for the first two weeks of school. Our Classroom Expectations for Each Other: 1. Be respectful- Ex. We will not talk while others are talking.

2. Be Responsible and Prepared- Ex. We all will be on time. 3. Be kind and caring-Ex. Help a friend; Share a crayon with them. 4. Be safe- Ex. Lets not run with scissors 5. Have Fun!!

Procedures in the classroom Arrival/ Unpack- Student come in and unpack their stuff. They turn in their folders to the take home folder bucket. This is the time for students to sharpen their pencils. They may say good morning to their friends, but once in their seat they are to begin their morning work. Announcements- While announcements are on students should be silent and all attention should be on the tv where the announcements are being showed like a tv show. Homework/Anything for the teacher- All homework, lunch money, notes from parent, or anything else for me will remain in their take home folder and will be place in a bin labeled take home folder. This should be done first thing in the morning while unpacking. Morning Work- Students will have some kind of worksheet to do at their table for morning work when they come in. Students are excepted to start on this as soon as they have completed their arrival procedures. Turning in Work- When students are done with work there will be a tray on my desk that says COMPLETED WORK. All students work will be placed here. I also will have another tray that says NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED (they will be able to finish this whenever they have extra time.)

Finishing work early- If students finish their work early they may then go and see if there are anything that they need to complete in the needs completing tray. If not they may get a book and sit quietly. If they had rather draw they may get a piece of paper and draw on it. Bathroom- I will not have a set time for the bathroom. I will teach my students how to say potty in sign language. Then they can just make the sign when they need to go and I can tell them yes or no. This way I do not have to hear I need to potty all day. Water- There will be cups sitting beside the sink in my classroom. Anytime the students want water they can get it. Just as long as its not when I am teaching or giving instruction. Pencil Sharpening- Students are to sharpen pencils in the morning after unpacking. I will ask the parents to send in pack of pencil at the beginning of the school year and throughout the school year. I will have a bucket for sharpen pencils and unsharpened pencils. Students may get a sharp pencil in exchange for an unsharpened pencil. Calendar Time- Students will set on the carpet in their assigned seats. I will have a teacher helper every week. That student will go over all the words on the word wall and the sounds. The teacher helper will say the words and the rest of the class will repeat it after them. We will go over the weather, how many days we have been in school, and the day, month, and year. Students are expected to set crisscross applesauce and hands in their lap. If students have a problem with this they will be asked to sit at their table. Centers- Students will be in already assigned groups. I will have the groups labeled 1,2,3,4. Every day the students will go to another center. The students work will be in a tub and everything they need. They can work as a group but must get their work completed. They will

have 20-30 mins per center, depending on the center. When finish will all their work if they have time they may go to free choice centers. Quiet Time- During quiet time students get their towel or blanket and find a spot on the floor. They can lay anywhere they want, and do not have to go to sleep, but they must not talk. A few students will be picked each day to get on the computer during quiet time. Show and Share- Each day four students will have a bag that they get to take home and bring back with something special to share with the class. The students each get to get in front of the class and talk about what they brought. Lining Up/ Hall way I will have a line leader, door holder, and caboose each week. Students will line up based on the color table they set at. I will call the colors at random. While in the hall students are to remain in a straight line, hands to self, and stay quiet. Snack- Students will get their snack and set in the back on the classroom on the floor. I will have snack for student who dont have theirs. The students are to remain setting and trash patrol will come get everyones trash at the end of snack. Dismissal- At dismissal time, students will pack all their materials up and put their backpack on the back of their chairs. Students who ride the bus can play with puzzles while they are waiting to go home. Classroom Helpers- Each Monday I will pick helpers for the week. I will pick them by pulling popsicle sticks out of a cup. When a student has a job they are taken out until all the names are out of the cup. Helpers will be: Door holder, Line leader, Lights helper, Trash Patrol, Caboose, Weather Spy, Teacher Helper,

Motivation StrategiesIt is important to motivate students and encourage them to learn. I will have a class store that the students will be able to go to by earning pennies for good behavior. Students need to feel like they belong so my class will have a daily classroom meeting. I also thing we need to motivate students by making learning fun and that is why I have created JUST DANCE in my classroom. *Whole Group- Class Store- In my class I will have a class store. All through the week students earn penny for doing the right thing, or something spectacular. On Fridays I will let the students spend their pennies on something at the store. Items will be worth different pennies. 3 pennies- a lollipop 5 pennies- an eraser 6 pennies- a box of crayons 7 pennies- a book 8 pennies- something from the treasure box. - Classroom Meeting- We will have a classroom meeting during the day. During this time we will discuss what we are suppose to do for the day. Also child may discuss if they have any concerns. - Just Dance- During the day if I see all my students on task I will walk over to the radio and turn it on! Its Time for just dance!! Students may get up and dance for a few minutes.

* Individual- One-on-one time with me- Students may feel out a sheet if they feel they need to have a time for just me and them to sit and talk. - The Microphone- While having our class meeting if a student wants to talk they will get to have the microphone. You have to sit nicely to get your time with the microphone. - Good Note Home- I will send a good note home with student I see who has had great behavior all day. Preventative Behavior Management Strategies*Whole Group- In my room the behavior chart will be a behavior chart. Students will start in the middle and can move up or down during the day. It will look like the one below but I also believe that students need to be able to go up for positive behavior. I will add two more squares. One that says I was caught being good, and the top one will say Im the big catch of the day. I will take out the conference with parent. I think this maybe extreme for one day of misbehavior and if a child has to call home I will speak to the parent then. I am not a big fan of tattle telling it drives me crazy! I will have a mailbox and students can write we a letter if they want to tell me something that someone is doing that they think I need to know about. I also think student need

to feel like they belong in the classroom. This is why I will create the student of the week board.

-Behavior Questionnaire- If a student in the class breaks a rule they will be asked to fill out a behavior questionnaire. It ask questions like: Tell me what happen, What rule did you break and why, how can we keep this from happening again. Then they have to sign it, I have to sign it, and their parents have to sign it.

- Tattle telling- I will have paper for students that think I need to know what another student is doing. I will have a mailbox and students can write me a letter and I will check my mail two times a day and if it is appropriate for me to I will deal with it.

* Individual- Have a teddy bear in the room if a child is feeling sad, mad, or just down they may go sit and hug on the bear. - Student of the week- Each Week I will pick a student who has had good behavior in the classroom. That student will be have their picture on a bulletin board and different thing will be put up against them.

- Finishing work early- When students are done with their work early they may either look at a book or get a piece of paper and draw a picture. Some students may elect to write on this paper.

Intervention StrategiesIntervention strategies are great! They help students get back on track and help the teachers regain control of the classroom. I was surprise when I began using them in the classroom. The ones listen below are the ones that have been the most effective for me and are the ones I plan on using in my classroom. *Whole Group - Give me 5!!- I say give me five and the student hold up their hand. The five represent- eyes are watching, ears are listening, lips are sealed, hands are still, feet are quiet. - 1,2,3 Eyes on Me!- When I say 1,2,3, eyes on me students say 1,2 eyes on you. -Ready to Rock? Ready to Roll- When I say ready to rock, students say ready to roll.

Levels of ConsequencesIn my classroom I will have a behavior chart. The chart tells the consequences. I will give a child two warning before moving their clip. Then they will get a warning. After a warning they then will have to go to time out. If they continue their behavior I will make them

call home and tell their parents what they have done. I also then will have to fill out the behavior questionnaire. The next step would be to send them to the office. I will take out the parent conference section. I dont think that should be on there for one day of misbehavior. I will talk to the parents on the phone when the student calls them and I will set up a conference then if needed.

Implementation PlanI will begin my implementation plan on the first day of school. Like Harry Wong suggested I will have all my stuff together and be prepared on the first day of school. When students come in on the first day of school I will greet them and let them know to put up their backpacks and find their names on their assigned desk. On their desk I will have a fun coloring page for them to do until the announcements are over. After the announcements we will have a class meeting. I will go over my expectations and as a class we will develop our classroom rules. I will go over all the procedures that are listed above. I also will have those posted on my wall. If I am in kindergarten I will have the procedures in a picture format so they can understand them. I will let them know about the behavior chart and how it work and how I have high expectations for them that I will never have to move them to the call home or principle square.

We will pick our first helpers and I will explain everyones job and what they are suppose to do. I know students will be getting a little restless so we will JUST DANCE somewhere while going through all this. I will explain to the students about shopping and how they can earn pennies during the week. I will explain my intervention strategy so they will know what I expect them to do when I say 1,2,3 eyes on me!
