Problems of the Female Reproductive System

1. Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)- a collection of physical and emotional changes before and during menstruation. 2. Toxic Shock Syndrome- a rare but serious bacterial infection caused by incorrect tampon use. It may produce a fever and sunburn like rash.

3. Infertility- the inability to reproduce. It may be due to a blocked fallopian tube, failure to produce eggs, or other reasons. 4. Ovarian Cysts- growths on the ovary. Any pain, swelling, abdominal bloating, or feeling of heaviness in the abdominal area should be evaluated by a physician. 5. Sexually Transmitted Infections- infections that are spread by sexual contact. 6. Cancer- uncontrolled cell growth that destroys healthy tissue. Cancer can affect the breasts, ovaries, uterus, or cervix.

Care of the Female Reproductive System

1. Examine your breasts- check once a month for unusual lumps or thickening. Any breast changes should be evaluated by a doctor. 2. Bathe regularly- during menstruation, change tampons and sanitary frequently. 3. Record Your Menstrual Periods- Your doctor will want to know when they occur and how long they last. 4. Practice Abstinence- refrain from sexual activity before marriage.
