Preferred conference list MUN Year 11 2013-2014

As students at Campus Des Nations who represent not only the school but the foundation in a positive light we believe that by challenging our academic capabilities we touch upon approaches to learning, a much valued asset belonging to the areas of interaction in the IB program, which influence how we learn, and how we use foreign experiences outside the school environment to expand upon our academic potential. MUN conferences will also provide us with the opportunity to get in touch with other students from schools across the world, to communicate and share our experiences and ideas with them as well. We believe that communicating with different people from diverse cultures will help us broaden and provide us with a sourceful insight with peoples thoughts and ideas, and will also help us enhance our communication skills as individuals especially in an international scale.

Model United Nations at The Nanyang Technological University, Singapore 2014 Dates: 7-9 February 2014

Location: Singapore, Singapore Weblink: http://www.ntumun.com/

Official invite email to conference:

The Nanyang Technological University Model United Nations conference is a conference that is of a very high standard and very academically and intellectually challenging. We would really like to attend this conference because we feel that as IB learners, we should challenge ourselves on a mental and academic level and be exposed to a different culture. Although Singapore is relatively far away, we feel that it is a fantastic opportunity not to be missed. Firstly, it ties into what we have been learning about in Humanities, about how Singapore once was a 2

British colony before the Second World War, we feel that being able to experience its aura and environment would enrich our knowledge of the countrys past, and also open our eyes to its cultural diversity within the 21st century. Singapore is a very diverse country with a great historical background and culture, and we feel that it would be an amazing learning opportunity if we would be able to attend, for as open-minded learners, being able to experience a new and extravagant culture and land fist-handedly would without a doubt broaden our vision. Its a far different experience to what we would otherwise be exposed to, and we are really keen on attending this conference. Summary: Why singapore? Ties into what we have been learning Great new cultural experience High academic standard Considered one of the safest cities in the world Entire city easily accessible by public transport One of Asias largest Art supremacies Modern, international mindsets co-exist harmoniously with traditional Asian values Visa easily accessible for all nationalities

Model United Nations of Georgetown University at Doha, Qatar Dates: 20-23 February 2014 Location: Doha, Qatar Weblink: http://qatar.sfs.georgetown.edu/campus/organizations/mun/

The Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar Model United Nations is a very prestigious event that invites over 350 students around the world to come and participate their MUN. The university encourages high school students to engage in a much higher academically challenging format of debate. Not only will going to Qatar provide us with a much higher standard of debate and experience, but will also expose us to a new culture and opportunities as students of an international school. It will also provide us with the opportunity to get in touch with other students from schools across the world, to communicate and share our experiences and ideas with them as well. I think that communicating with different people from diverse cultures will help us broaden not only provide

us with a sourceful insight with peoples thoughts and ideas, but will also help us enhance our communication skills as individuals especially in an international scale. Summary: Why Qatar? Dubai is hosting a highly selective Model United Nations in the Gulf region, which many students wish to attend across the world. Again, going to Dubai would be a whole new insight for students who love to travel and experience while being provided with a strong educational aspect which is what Dubai offers. The region is well known to have a strong cultural influence and we are fully aware of the cultural limitations and influences, which is one of the reasons we would like to explore the city and what it has to offer. This is what the IB values, the initiative to learn and experience new cultures and be able to communicate with different people across the world comfortably. Dubai had offered to host the United Nations main office in their region in case the UN wanted to relocate from New York. Dubai did not become the venue to host the largest international MUN of the Arabia by accident. Rather it was determined by the logic of the citys development and the vision of its people. Summary: Why Dubai? Dubai is growing and developing, bold and progressive just like young MUNees are. Dubai is known for its emerging and influential history It hosts the exemplary examples of modern day architecture It hosts the worlds most influential entrepreneurs and showcases their contribution to the modern world of Dubai It has many landmarks that are worth experiencing especially for young and motivated students.
