LESSON PLAN 6 SECONDARY LISTEN, EVALUATE AND ANALYZE


Teacher Candidate Grade Level 10-12th Joe Woolf Subject/Content: Music Choral Title . Listen, Evaluate and Analyze

CONTEXTUAL FACTORS (e.g. ethnicity, gender, exceptionalities, ELL, GATE, etc.) which need differentiation in instruction and assessment. Number of Students - 26: 12 Males, 14 Females Race: White with 1 Asian Special Ed. Students 2: need accommodations with reading, writing and testing Multiple perspective include global perspective in subject content Prior Knowledge/ Academic Level Basic level is achieved especially in subject content SES: 2 students are receiving school assistance for lunch and other school related financial needs Medical: 2 students have medical alerts which are recognized and described in their school records

WALK-AWAY (what do I want students to know, understand, and be able to do?) Utah Core Objectives: Utah Core Curriculum Standard 3: Objective B: Evaluate ensemble performance Students will listen, evaluate and analyze a music performance Content Walk-Away: Students will listen, evaluate and analyze a choir performance Students will comprehend what is expected when asked to listen, evaluate and analyze music Reading/Language Walk-Away: Students will evaluate and analyze music in writing

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE (formative/summative checks for learning) (Match the Content Walk-Away) Pre-Assessments- Teacher and Students will discuss past music performances attended or participated in. Formative Assessments Teacher will conduct a question and answer session to evaluate students understanding of what it really means to listen, evaluate and analyze music. Summative Assessments Students will write an evaluation and analysis of a musical performance they listen to in class, using a checklist. Teacher will evaluate students evaluation and analysis using a checklist.

Modifications/Accommodations (ELL,

IEP, GATE, etc.) Special Ed. Students will be given extra time on quizzes, assignments and tests. Quiz and test questions will be read aloud. Students will be given extra time to complete their work and will be able to retake quizzes and tests as needed. They will receive small group instruction and will receive modified grading.

ACTIVE LEARNING PLAN

Activate Prior Knowledge/Experiences Teacher and Students will discuss past performances attended or participated in. Review pre-test content on listening, evaluating and analyzing. Focus Lesson (I do it) Teacher will explain what to listen for when evaluating and analyzing music. Teacher will discuss essential questions: How can I be a good listener? Can understanding how to listen, evaluate and analyze music really make a difference in how I perform? Guided Instruction (We do it) Engage in a group discussion regarding what it means to really listen. Listen to a recording of a professional choir performance. Engage in a group discussion and write comments on the White Board regarding what was heard. Evaluate what was heard and provide a short analysis as a class. Collaborative/Cooperative (You do it together) Pair Share activity: students will have one minute to explain how they intend on being a better listener to their partner who is only to listen(not talk). After one minute the other partner will do the same. Next two minutes the two students will give feedback or evaluate to each other how they did. Each Pair Share couple will analyze their performance at this task to the rest of the class. Independent (You do it alone) Students will listen to the recording of the choir performance again and then write an evaluation using the checklist followed by a few written thoughts analyzing the performance. Summarization/Closure Closure will include reviewing lesson content and answering essential lesson questions. NOTES TO TEACHER What do I need to remember to do?
