Intro: Global warming is the recent increase of the worlds temperature that is caused by pollution. The main cause of pollution is said to be the increase of gases like carbon dioxide. A. Thesis: Global warming is a real prominent issue that is being caused by human activity. 1. Over the most recent 100-150 year period examined, humans are responsible for at least 50% of the observed warming, and most estimates put the human contribution between 75 and 90% over that period. Over the most recent 25-65 years, every study put the human contribution at a minimum of 98%, and most put it at well above 100%, because natural factors have probably had a small net cooling effect over recent decades (Skeptical Science).

II. Body: Air pollution A. Air pollution seems to be the most common type of pollution caused by human activity. This is because there has been industrial advancement in our world. Our modern society has standards that need to be fulfilled that require machines and using toxic emissions to our planet.

Wilson2 1. Burning of fossil fuels a. Fossil fuels are hydrocarbons, primarily coal, fuel oil or natural gas, formed from the remains of dead plants and animals (Science daily) b. Fossil fuels contribute more than 90% of gross domestic greenhouse gas emissions (Epa) c. These quotes show that air pollution is at its highest rate with fossil fuel. It shows that it happens often and causing a strain on our planet. d. Not only do fossil fuels affect our planet but other emissions do as well. III. Body: Emissions 1. Emission of carbon dioxide from the vehicles/ industries a. Accounted for about 84% of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions from human activities. (Epa) b. The main sources of carbon dioxide emissions are: electricity, transportation, and industry c. Co2 emissions are happening from long and short- term factors like population and economic growth, new technologies, etc. 2. Chemicals present in farming a. Chemical fertilizers used for plants are high in nitrogen oxide destroying the ozone layer b. Agriculture is burning up our planet c. Coal plants, tar sands and natural gas fracking have contributed (Ecowatch) which are all used in farming

Wilson3 d. These quotes are showing evidence of our daily lives affecting the planet and producing harmful chemicals into our world and bodies. e. Even with all this evidence and information there are scientists who believe that this is not accurate. IV. Body: Counterargument A. Global warming is not real, a. Since 1998, 31,000 scientists have signed a petition agreeing with the fact that there is no scientific evidence or consensus that man-made global warming exists while the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has the support of only 2,500 scientists (Policy mic) b. The earth stopped warming in 1977 c. Going to go into a new solar cycle, that should cool the earth d. Money is going towards an effort that does not need fixing 1. They are wrong a. Too much evidence that supports global warming Ex: This year is the seventh warmest since records began in 1850 and rising sea levels caused by climate change (Reuters) V. Conclusion: There are many percentages and statistics that prove that global warming is present and mainly caused by human activities. These show that emissions, fossil fuels, and other problems are shown to be damaging the ozone layer making our planet hotter. We can take a stand and help the environment by recycling, car-pooling, and reducing our use of non-environmental friendly products.
