I am interested in the dietetic internship position that I learned about through the Student Dietetics Association at the University of Memphis. St. Jude Research Hospital places such a strong emphasis on community and I believe that I would be an asset to your organization. I have taken advantage of various opportunities to serve in the Memphis community through volunteer work involving nutrition as well as other service projects. I have volunteered at food pantries throughout Shelby County and Tipton County. Because of my experience in these areas, I have been given an inside look on the effects that nutrition can have on children. Some of my strong suits are my punctuality and professionalism. I have excellent social skills and patience that I believe would be beneficial to St. Jude. I am currently pursuing my Bachelors of Science Degree in hopes of becoming a Registered Dietician. I plan to further my knowledge by attending the Masters program here at the University of Memphis. I have joined various dietetic organizations, such as the Student Dietetics Association and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. I am also a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, Helen Hardin Honors Program, and Alpha Gamma Delta. Because of my involvement on campus and the academic programs I have gained a better understanding of leadership, professionalism, organization, and the importance of the social aspect of it all. Being a part of these groups has also increased my experience as a team player. The organizations I am involved in have led me to become passionate about my community which has encouraged me to pursue your internship in hopes of staying within Memphis and addressing the nutritional needs of not only fellow Memphians but also children from around the world. I am patient and empathetic which are characteristics that I believe everyone in the nutritional community should have especially when working in pediatric oncology. I have seen the result that dietary changed can make; I am enthusiastic about the life altering change that nutrition can make in everyones life especially those who suffer from difficult health situations.
