Hensel English III November 18, 2013 Brain or Beauty: A Womens Million Dollar Deal For the past ten centuries women have been trying to reduce the discrimination level to none. During an important time, influences from religion and society taught women that their bodies were somehow evil; even though nature designed the womans body to attract males. Because of this outrageous theory, women are more likely to be chosen by their body parts than by their brain capacity. Women are frequently the focus of sexual objectification, discrimination of both body and mind, and undermined by their looks. Body shape is now an important factor of womens lives that indicate whether or not we have an advantage in the world today. There are 6,000different shapes for women. Male researchers found that 46% were banana shaped (a mans less likely pick), just over 20% were a pear, just fewer than 14% were an apple, and 8% an hourglass (North Carolina state university circa 2005). Another study has found that the average women waistline expanded by six inches since the 1950s (Vereen). Todays statistics prove that the waistline catches a males eye every five minutes a day. Women are taller and have bigger butts and hips then those of the 1950s (Vereen). Science research finds that the brain actually processes images of women differently in the mind of a man. What is a womans million dollar deal: Brain or Beauty? Objectification of women comes from centuries of social programming, not nature. A womens brain capacity can hold

twenty-five percent more information that men (Daily Mail). Study found that parts of the frontal lobe, responsible for problem-solving and decision-making, and the limbic cortex, responsible for regulating emotions were large in women (HOAG). Beauty isnt between a size zero and an eight. Theres no number at all. Beauty comes in all sizes, no discrimination needed, especially because were beautiful in our own way. Appearance is what society is obsessed with, feeding on a womans intuition and beauty (Jennifer Hermes). Women are not only looked down by our clothing, but by any existing factor that we might show such as: a job, foot wear, hairstyles, where we eat at or even who is in our contact list. Men should process women bodies in a more local ways (Stephanie Pappas). When it comes to working, its hard to feel sorry for pretty girls since numerous workplace discrimination studies show that they have an edge when it comes to getting hired, promoted, elected and evaluated. Gender inequality has posed the importance of gender discrimination for womens experiences at work. Because of gender differences the qualifications given to the traditional division of labor, women tend to accumulate less labor market experience than men (Mincer and Polachek). The longer the hours that women spend on housework may also decrease the effort they put into their market jobs compared to men (Becker, 1985). Employers may be reluctant to hire women for such jobs because the firm bears some of the costs that rise is because of a womens look. Wage structure is an influence in the size of the gender gap in pay (Bergmann). The rest of the world never has experienced how women deal with discrimination in life and the journeys that we seek to overcome. For example, women being in a working field especially being able to qualify for a mans position will set them up for drama. People subconsciously believe women are less capable at succeeding in anything that competes with a

man. Men and women are held at different standards. There is something about our cultures view on male-dominated fields such as engineering that causes a female confidence to be considered unattractive (Turkle). To prove that men look at women in a more factious way, researcher, Michael Vereen, did an experiment on six mens brains identifying women in a form of way. When viewing female images, participants were better at recognizing individual parts than they were matching whole body photographs. Women are known for many fine accomplishments, but are they a contender or just a toy to the outside world? Women+predjuice= a males discrimination. When the article speaks where it all automatically becomes a whole issue about women being discriminated for bogus reasoning, is a load of BS (Daily Mail). A Womans individuality is like her self-respect or dignity, if she does not give concern for it no one will. This leaves room for men to shatter the pieces of self-confidence they have left. Men already feel they are the superior ones in the world, and they like to think they know everything. Say for instance, if you have a weird bump on your ankle, suddenly theyre doctors. If your cupcakes did not turn out the right way, they are suddenly pastry chefs. Some men think they know everything there is to know about women. They do not know what makes us women- like our tubes and eggs. Being undermined by our looks, repeatedly being the focus of sexual objectification, and being objectified by both body and mind is unacceptable. Women are simply peaceful creatures who live to become something in life; to be looked upon as something worthy and appreciated. How women are as human beings should put us all under the same umbrella (Ella Ella). Change is still waiting for the women of today to be respected and have proper authority. Women deserve more and they waited for centuries to be able to be looked at as equal. It is time to claim what is rightfully theirs. Respect!
