Abortions Abortions are one of the most controversial issues in todays society due to the fact that some believe it is killing the innocent while others have no other options. An abortion is the removing of the embryo or fetus from the womans uterus, that should be done as soon as possible if considered. Abortions can be free if you have a medical coverage plan. If you are not covered by a Medicaid carrier, abortions can range from up to $450 to $600. The different forms of abortion that are currently available can vary from surgical removal, medical abortions (pills), and saltine solutions. Usually abortions are done within the first twelve weeks of the pregnancy. Medical abortions can be done up to until the seventh week of a pregnancy. Surgical abortions that are requested can be done after the fifth week of a pregnancy. When dealing with abortions, it is extremely vital that you are aware of the repercussions that may occur after the abortion. The side effects that may occur afterwards are: abdominal tenderness, bleeding, discolored or smelly discharge, depression, suicidal thoughts and feelings, anxiety, etc. Abortions can be provoked for multiple reasons. Religious beliefs are a fairly common purpose. Some religions have recognized it as murder. Catholicism is a religion currently known for its strict anti-abortion position. Other religions also feel as though the life of the fetus is subordinate to the women and/or teens life. Generally it is said that if the woman is married and

already has a living child, its far more important for her to take care of that child rather than a newborn child. The number of American babies killed by abortions each year is roughly equivalent to the number of U.S. military deaths that have occurred in all of the wars that the United States have ever been involved in combined. The Roe V. Wade Act was a landmark decision that was decided upon by the United States Supreme Court on the issue of abortion. The Roe V. Wade Act ruled abortion unconstitutional. The Act was argued December of 1971, reargued October 11, 1972, and assured on January 22, 1973. Statistics reveal that overall more than 53 million babies have fallen victim to this silent year of horror known as abortion. Those 53 million babies have been slaughtered since Roe V. Wade, a state law that banned abortions except to save the life of the mother (McBride, Alex), was recognized in the year of 1973. When abortions are decided upon, the clinics fail to give their patients all the details that are necessary to know. Such as your cervical muscle maybe damaged and could cause future pregnancies to obtain a greater chance of miscarriage or premature delivery. Damage to the uterine wall is another concern. Puncturing of the uterus, infection hemorrhage, and blood clots are only a few of the complications. Before you even know youre pregnant, the babys heart begins to beat! The fetus has no awareness and no pain sensations until after the fifth month of the pregnancy. Abortions are violent. The most common method of abortion used is suction aspiration. This consist of your cervix being forced open and a vacuum, 29 times more powerful than your one at home, being used to suction out the contents of the uterus. The vacuum tears the fetus and placenta into small pieces (Niagara Region Right to Life Association). Another method is the salt poisoning. A salt solution is injected into the babys water bags (where their being held

at). It poisons the baby and burns off her outer layer of skin. The mother convulses in pain for how every long it takes to do its deadly job. She then goes into labor and delivers a dead baby. In some cases the baby can somehow be born alive, but will be left unattended to die. There are some alternatives to abortions. The number one alternative for abortion is preventing unwanted pregnancy in the first place. Not engaging in unprotected sex will eliminate almost all unwanted pregnancies. Of course, by the time most people look for abortion alternatives, the time for prevention has passed (Hughes, Scott). Adoption is a second option that should be thought about carefully. Adoption is the legal act or process of having guardianship over a child. Some other types of assistance available are foster care, shelters, and pre-natal care clinics.
