MATHS REFLECTION ON PERIMETER AND AREA

For this maths unit of measurement we learnt area and perimeter. i rather liked doing this.We used regular and irregular shapes with parts missing. We had to measure the length, width, area and perimeter of the soccer pitch outside. We first had to estimate how much it would be by striding across it. For us 1 stride was 1 meter. Then we did the actual. I didnt get any right but some were a bit close. This was rather nice. We also needed to make an 100 wishes quilt. An 100 wishes quilt is a traditional Chinese tradition where when a baby is born the relatives make quilt for it with scrap bit of stuff they dont use anymore and they also make shapes and patterns on it. We each made a tile. Then, we had to calculate the area and perimeter of shapes and the background. It was a rather nice activity that we did. Our last lesson we did was an assessment on planning a picnic and to calculate the area and perimeter of the blanket. then we did the extension on the teachers blanket and Ms Carlas as well. I think this was one of my favourite units. For homework we ad to measure Farmer Smiths field. As Mr Thomas said the perimeter is like the fence around a farmers field. another thing we did was to see how many people could fit in a 1 meter2 square, a 4 meter2 one, and a 9 meter2 one. This was certainly something i liked. In the 1meter2 one 4 people fit. In the 4 meter2 one our whole class could fit. In the 9 meter2 one the whole
