October 4, 2013 Student Activities Council Emily Chowdhury SAC President 800 University Drive Maryville, MO 64468 Dear Ms. Chowdhury: In 1985, Dr. Gordy Klatt raised $27,000 for the American Cancer Society by walking/running for 24 hours in Tacoma, Washington. A year later, 340 supporters joined the fight against cancer by walking in this event. Since 1985, this event has raised over $5 billion in the fight against cancer. To raise more awareness and to help in the fight against cancer, The American Cancer Society will be hosting a Relay event in Maryville. The information concerning the event is listed below: Date: September 11, 2013-September 12, 2013 Time: 6:00 pm 6:00 am Location: Beal Park in Maryville Entry Fee: $10-$15 per team member

Each organization will need to provide a team for this event. The teams consist of 12-15 members, and must include a team captain. The team captain is in charge of organizing fundraisers and making sure they have a member from their team walking at all times. Typically, teams walk in pairs and switch out every 30 minutes to an hour. In the past, organizations such as yours have paired up with a business to help fund their entry fee. The American Cancer Society is a 501(C)3 organization, which means that donations are tax exempt by law. Many businesses like to extend a helping hand to student organizations when raising awareness for a significant cause. While the American Cancer Society is making progress toward a world without cancer, only with your dedication, fundraising, and event hosting efforts can we finish the fight against the disease. To participate in this event we ask that you sign up before September 1, 2013. You can register online through the Relay For Life website (www.relayforlife.org) or through your local Relay For Life in Nodaway County, which is located 606 S. Main Street in Maryville.
