- Four closely related phases that emphasize thinking and strategies for increasing student motivation: - Phase 1: learners describe, compare and search for patterns - Phase 2: learners offer explanations for similarities and differences - Phase 3: learners hypothesize outcomes for different conditions - Phase 4: learners generalize to form broad relationships

- Assessing content outcomes: item written out so that students produce a response - Assess critical thinking: measure thinking, you also measure knowledge of content + assessing students ability to either make or identify conclusions best supported by evidence - Use assessment to increase learning: discussion of the items during feedback after a quiz is returned can include an examination of evidence supporting or detracting from each conclusion, which both helps students develop critical thinking abilities and promotes deeper understanding of content.

-Using the model to increase student motivation: model can capitalize on motivating effects of involvement, success, challenge and perceptions of increasing competence - Each phase strongly promotes student involvement. - personalizing content to familiar everyday things that relate to the students helps to motivate their learning - making students responsible for gathering at least some of the information is important - capitalize on the motivational benefits of cooperation when students work together to find similarities and differences.

The Integrative Model is a way of presenting facts, concepts in some sort of organized form where students can build on their critical thinking skills. The students will find similarities and differences, come to conclusions and learn to give supporting evidence to back up their conclusions. They benefit from the model not only by developing their critical thinking skills, but also by interacting with other classmates and learning about being responsible for their information to contribute to the other students.
