Lecture Discussion Lesson Plan Analysis: Learning to Respect Each Other Over all this lesson plan is very

strong. I really like how it promotes critical thinking through role play and discussion. This lesson also frankly discusses racism and discrimination in a way that is very refreshing. Another strength of this lesson plan is that it contains very clear and descriptive learning objectives. I also like how the lesson plan is clear and well organized. The questions in the lesson plan also help guide the students to make connections between the lesson and their everyday lives. The aspects of this lesson plan that correlate to the lecture discussion model are: content, learning objectives, implementation, and assessment. This lesson plan covers Dr. Martin Luther King, discrimination, segregation, and stereotypes, which is an organized body of knowledge. The learning objectives of this lesson plan are for students to be understand the issues surrounding Dr. King, discrimination, segregation, and stereotypes and make connections in the classroom and their lives. The teacher also implements this lesson according to the lecture discussion model. The assessment piece of this lesson plan grades students according to their levels of participation during class discussion, quality of journal entries during mock segregation trial, and sharing during small group discussion. If I were to use this lesson plan I would most likely tweak the mock segregation classroom experiment. As a novice teacher I would have a very difficult time maintaining classroom management during that activity. I would need to feel very confident in my ability to maintain control and in the maturity of my students before I would attempt mock segregation in

the classroom. I think that it could be a very valuable learning experience, but it could also go very wrong very easily, so I would exercise extreme caution in implementing this activity.
