Essential Question(s): How does one determine the main idea of a fictional and informational text?
Connections (prior learning/prior knowledge): Continuation of strategies used in the prior week such as pre-reading strategies: defining tier 2 vocab words before reading the text, predicting main ideas; reading strategies: asking questions as you read, rereading for comprehension, looking for main ideas and supporting ideas; post reading strategies: comparing pre-reading predictions with post reading knowledge, answering questions that ask students to recall explicit ideas and infer implicit ideas, requiring students to summarize. Assessment (How will you monitor progress and know students have successfully met outcomes?) Daily: Do Now checks for understanding of the previous days lesson. Written assignments and quizzes check for understanding of daily lessons.
This Week: Students will fill out reading packet that focuses on vocabulary, comprehension, inferring information, identifying and summarizing main ideas and supporting details.

MONDAY Learning TargetShow ability to draw inferences about characters by answering questions about each son in the Jordanian fable. Show ability to identify character traits about a main character by listing two character traits of Abu Assef.

Demonstrate the ability to identify the moral of the story and paraphrase it in your own words by writing down the moral to the Jordanian fable in Around the World and rewriting it in your own words.
TUESDAY Learning TargetShow ability to compare and contrast information in an article with your own life by writing down 3 ways in which your life is alike and 3 ways in which your life is different from a child growing up in Jordan. Show ability to draw a conclusion in light of information gained from the same article. Show ability to recall information about a text by answering questions in a quiz.
