SURAT: Western Railway (WR) authorities have decided to take action against booking clerks who misbehave with passengers, especially senior citizens, at Surat railway station. Mumbai's divisional commercial manager (DCM) has ordered a probe against clerks at Surat for their alleged misbehaviour with senior citizens and other passengers. Sources said a senior citizen, who did not want to reveal his identity, had sent a written complaint to the WR authorities stating about the misbehavior of the booking clerks with the passenger at the ticket booking counters of Surat railway station. "The clerks are very rash. Sometimes they don't return the change," said Wahab Belim, member, Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee. Belim added, "Railways is the lifeline of this country and it is required that the railway staff learn some manners on how to deal with the passengers." Tushar Patel, a resident in Katargam, said, "The booking clerks at the railway station lack discipline. I faced a similar situation a few days ago while travelling to Ahmedabad. The clerk was insisting for a change and he started talking in an indecent tone." A senior railway officer said, "An inquiry has been ordered into the alleged misbehavior of the booking clerks at the railway station. A report would be submitted to the higher ups soon."
