West Career and Technical Academy: 11945 W Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89135 Program Courses: Principles of Biomedical Sciences- Students explore the concepts of human medicine and are introduced to topics such as physiology, genetics, microbiology and public health. They also explore the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease, working collaboratively to investigate and design innovative solutions to the health challenges of the 21st century such as fighting cancer with nanotechnology Throughout Human Body Systems-Students examine the interactions of human body systems as they explore identity, power, movement, protection, and homeostasis. Exploring science in action, students build organs and tissues, work through interesting real world cases and often play the roles of biomedical professionals to solve medical mysteries. Zoology- General area of study will include organic systems, taxonomy, and environmental adaptations. Emphasis will also be placed on diversity within the animal kingdom and animal behavior as it relates to physiological adaptations and environmental concerns. Medical Interventions- Students explore how to prevent and fight infection; screen and evaluate the code in human DNA; prevent, diagnose and treat cancer; and prevail when the organs of the body begin to fail. Through these scenarios, students are exposed to a range of interventions related to immunology, surgery, genetics, pharmacology, medical devices, and diagnostics.

AP Courses: AP Chemistry- AP Chemistry meets the objectives of a good college general chemistry course. This course enables them to undertake, in their first year, second-year work in the chemistry sequence at their institution or to register in courses in other fields where general chemistry is a prerequisite. Students in such a course should attain a depth of understanding of fundamentals and a reasonable competence in dealing with chemical problems
