Goals of Instruction and Assessment

These are student work samples from our Early Native Americans unit. The students learned about four different regions: the Desert Southwest, the Eastern Woodlands, the Northwest Coast and Arctic, and the Plains. The goal of this unit was to educate the students on the daily life of the Native Americans and how they adapted to these regions, what their food resources were, what they lived in, and who farmed/gathered/hunted, etc. At the end of the unit, the students were divided into four groups and were assigned a region. They were instructed to model their region by building shelters, boats, food, animals, et cetera, as well as write a paper describing their region. The students were assessed on how well they represented their region and their papers were assessed on quality, conventions, and whether or not the information was factual.
