At the end of the lesson we will come back together as a group and discuss: *Why eating the right food is important for your health. *What are possible problems your body can have if you dont have enough food to eat? *What are possible problems your body can have if you eat too much? *How will you make the right decisions about what you eat. I will remind students that a balanced diet and exercise will help them keep the mind and body in balance. Accommodations:
1. For an ELL there will be plenty of visuals and pictures to help aide in understanding. 2. For a special education student they will be put with a group who is responsible and will include the student in group activities. They will also have pre-cut materials for their Healthy Me Doll.
Enrichment/Extension:
My Plate www.choosemyplate.gov I will explain the MyPlate image and how it is a visual representation to help children remember how to eat healthy and make better food choices. MyPlate is user friendly and conveys a simple message people can readily grasp such as: *all five food groups are important and represented on the plate *fill half of your plate with fruits and vegetables
Assessment/Evaluation:
1. On a piece of construction paper that is already pre-cut and folded, the students will represent where junk food and healthy food should be in their bodies. The outside of the folded paper will be labeled Junk Food (representing that junk food should stay outside of the body). The inside flap will be labeled Healthy Food (representing that healthy food should go into the body). This folded piece of construction paper will be a part of the body on the students Healthy Me Doll that will be completed by the end of this IC unit. They will be given pre-made foods to place inside the body and outside of the body. The teacher will observe that by the student placing the junk food outside and healthy food inside, the students are showing that they understand the concept of making healthy food choices. 2. As a class play Blast Off (computer activity) to see how well the class can plan a menu of healthy food and exercise choices. The teacher will be listening to the student discussions and monitor whether the information being shared is accurate and on topic.
