The Philippine Department of Health (DOH) adopted the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) report shows that

in the developing in 1995 about 7.5 million children under age 5 died from one or frequently, more than one of five conditions: malaria, malnutrition, measles, acute respiratory infections (ARI) and diarrhea .It address the countrys problem of child morbidity and mortality.

The Integrated Management of Childhood Illness is to improves the case management skills of health workers, selected health systems operations, and family/community practices in childcare. Health workers implement the strategy over many parts of the country. It constraints have been identified in achieving sufficient coverage to improve child survival, and implementation remains sub-optimal.

At the core of the IMCI strategy is a clinical guideline whereby health workers use a series of algorithms to assess and manage a sick child, and give counseling to cares. It taught using a structured 11-day training course that combines classroom work with clinical practice; a variety of training techniques are used, supported by comprehensive training materials and detailed instructions for facilitators.
