(Including Montana and CCSS where appropriate, as well as MT Technology standards)

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.7.7: Conduct short research projects to answer a question, drawing on several sources and generating additional related, focused questions for further research and investigation. ISTE Standard #3: Research and Information Fluency Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. ISTE Standard #4: Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Decision Making Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. Montana Technology Standard #1.1: Students will use multiple approaches to explore alternative solutions. Montana Technology Standard #1.2: Students will collect relevant data and information on a subject form a variety of digital resources. Learning Objectives:
(Written as specific, concrete, and measurable for this specific activity you should be able to align these learning objectives directly to your standards AND your learning activities. Use Blooms verbs!).

3. 4. 5.

Along the way students will conduct short research projects in order summarize their findings, predict outcomes, and compile questions about their garden project. Students will discuss the information they already have about the garden and record, via Microsoft Word, what went wrong with the garden then select informational sources that are appropriate to them growing a garden. Students will compose a plan to develop a solution for their new indoor garden. Students will use the Internet to explore different alternatives for their gardens heat lamp, veggies, and soils. Students will explore numerous gardening websites in order to compare and choose appropriate information for their garden project.

Evidence of Learning:
(Including pre-, formative, and summative phases if appropriate)

For pre-assessment we will compile the students prior knowledge of gardening through open discussion. This will give my partner and I, along with the students, a better understanding of what went wrong. We will then collaboratively acquire relevant and accurate information, along the way well assess formatively through their participation in the gathering of the new information and their short research projects that they will do individually. Learning Activities:
(Briefly describe the activitys procedure. Make sure to explain the activitys beginning, middle, and end.)

The children will first express what they previously did with their garden. This will give us a chance to analyze what went wrong with it through short research questions and acquiring knowledge through the internet. The students will then work on how to start their new garden through the same process of internet research. They will research grow lights or alternative

options, different plants and their soil requirements, and what plants they want to grow. After all the research is done and there is a well-developed plan students will begin to actually plant their garden. The second cohort will take over from there.

Technology Integration:
(What technology are you including and WHY? How does the use of the technology directly connect to your objectives?)

We will mainly be working with computers due to our extensive need for online research for our garden. We will also be using the computers for documenting our research. There may be a chance of using soil props to test our gardens soil to acquire its nutrient makeup. If there is a chance of obtaining such technology through the school we will be quite thrilled.
