The First Thanksgiving Grade Level & Class Title: Grade 5 Cool Cat Class (Triple C) rd Period or Block: 3 Period out of 9 periods

Standards & Objectives Content Standards: Regions and People of the Western Hemisphere In grade five; students study the Western Hemisphere (North and South America), its geographic features, early history, cultural development and economic change. Students learn about the early inhabitants of the Americas and the impact of European exploration and colonization. The geographic focus includes the study of contemporary regional characteristics, the movement of people, products and ideas, and cultural diversity. Students develop their understanding of the relationship between markets and available resources. Learning Objectives: For the children to learn all of the aspects of the First Thanksgiving Dinner between the Native Americans and the Pilgrims. Academic Language Objectives: Have the children write an essay about their first Thanksgiving that they can recall, and have them relate their experienced to what they learned about the First Thanksgiving. As well present their story to their fellow classmates.

Instructional Strategies and Learning Tasks to Support Learning: Time Learning Activities and Purpose
Orientation\Engagement\Motivation: Have the children speak about what they know about the First Thanksgiving, this will engage all of the class because everyone will have to give their knowledge on the Thanksgiving. To motivate the children, I would bring in a miniature Thanksgiving meal with some foods from that time period. Presentation\Explicit Instruction: PowerPoint Documentaries Guided Practice\Feedback: Following the PowerPoints and documentaries give the children worksheets that draw the material that was presented in the class period. Independent Practice\Application Have the kids go home and with their parents supervision find facts and details that they find interesting to share in the next class.

Instructional Materials and Support Use of the Smart Board to keep the children engaged and able to learn. Along with the Board, the television for when we watch some documentaries Assessments:

Halfway through the class I will be giving them a quiz to see how much they have learned so far. Then at the end of the lesson being taught have a full test to draw all of their knowledge that was learned from the class. Along with the essay that is required to be completed. Technology: Smart Board- to get the children interacting with the material that is presented. Television\projector or project it on the Smart Board to watch documentaries.
