A Rhetorical Analysis on the Shutdown of the Government One of the most well known issues in the news today regards the government being shutdown. There have been numerous articles published relating to this topic. The three articles I am going to address are 47 Fun Things The Politics Blog and Fox News Blog. These sources display a difference in opinion and e!igence regarding the shutdown of the government. These articles all have different needs audiences and content. "owever they are written in regard to the same issue. The first source is written by Funny or Die and is entitled 47 Fun Things You Must Do During the Government Shutdown. Obviously the circumstance that influenced this post is the shutdown of the government. This article addresses forty#seven ways you can $live up% the government being shutdown. The rhetor of this article communicates to the audience with humor. In this situation the audience would be the common public since the article is not addressed to one particular group. This article is most likely written by a common person because the language that is used is everyday language. The overall piece is shaped by humor. "owever to an e!tent it can be informative. It makes known that as a result of this issue there are various places that are shutdown such as national parks. The second source is a &o! 'ews (log written by )lint "enderson. This article is more informative than the previous one and demonstrates that the shutdown of the government is a serious matter. &or this circumstance the audience would be anyone that the issue affects. This article uses educated language therefore it is written by an educated individual that is familiar with the topic. I believe this article is made more to persuade

someone to agree with Obama when he says *They+re shutting down the government over an ideological crusade to deny affordable health care to many Americans.* The last source is a ,olitics (log written by )harles ,. ,ierce and is titled This +s ,h!t They ,!nt. This article is informative and addresses the seriousness of the government being shutdown. The rhetor is displaying the seriousness to its audience who is anyone that is influenced by this event. The language of this piece is from an educated individual. I believe this article is made to inform citi-ens about the topic. The writer of this article e!plains that they are getting what they want and they are doing what they want to do. Steve .oocy &o! and &riend co#host reveals that people are going to reali-e that they can live with a lot less government than what they thought they needed. This idea is the motivation behind this crisis in our country. Throughout the differences in opinions audiences e!igencies and content these three articles have e!plained the government crisis in various ways that were intended to persuade and inform citi-ens. I agree with Steve .oocy in the ,olitics (log when he says that people are going to reali-e that they can live with a lot less government than what they thought. /hen people reali-e that they can live with a lot less government intervention they are not going to do anything about it. I think this article is very convincing. I am not a very informed individual about this topic regarding our country. "owever I think that citi-ens want less government intervention anyways. I also en0oyed reading the 47 Fun Things article because it was more humorous and made the crisis not seem as serious.
