Lesson: Citizenship Grade: 1st Time: 20 minutes Materials: -Citizenship handout (p.39) -Citizenship handout/Individual Reflections (p.

35) -Citizenship discussion cards (p.44) Lesson: -Define citizenship/explain the concept of good citizenship. Talk about members of different groups- families, schools, towns, countries, and the world. Membership in each of these groups comes with rights and responsibilities. Go over rights and responsibilities. (p.39) -Individual Reflections (p.35) Read the story. Ask children if they would rather live alone and do anything they want or live with others and have to follow rules. Discuss citizenship at school. Possibly do a get-to-know-you activity. -Use citizenship discussion cards (p.44) to hold a classroom discussion about citizenship
