Learning Outcomes
Level 4
The part of the earth facing the sun is receiving light rays this is day time
Level 5
Level 4
Seasons are caused by the constant tilt of the earths axis as it orbits the sun
Level 5
Part of the earth tilted towards the sun gets more direct rays therefore hotter resulting summer etc
Level 4
The gravitational pull causes the water to bulge towards the moon this is a high tide etc
Level 5
The combined effect of the moon and suns gravitational pull together creates spring tides (high high-tides) and neap tides (average tides) when the moon and suns gravitational pull are right angles.
Learning Outcome 4: Explain the causes of the phases of the moon Level 3
Phases of the moon are caused when light from the sun reflects off the moon towards the earth. The shape changes as the relative positions of the earth, sun and moon change
Level 4
The more sunlight reaching the moons surface, the more light reflects towards the earth. The moon is orbiting the earth.
Level 5
The more light reflecting towards earth, the bigger the surface area of the moon we can see. Linking the amount of light to the shape and surface area of the moon visible. Know named phases of the moon e.g. crescent, gibbous etc.
Level 4
The moon is orbiting the earth and the earth is orbiting the sun. Their changing positions result in the formation of conditions for solar and lunar eclipses
Level 5
Define solar eclipses and what causes it. Define lunar eclipses and what causes it.
Level 4
Living things needs water, oxygen and suitable temperature range to survive
Level 5
Space travel requires protection form heat/cold, food provision and oxygen supply as these are all absent
