Goals Assignment

Instructions and Guidelines 1. Using the guidelines in Chapter One, create a long-term, mid-term and short-term goal in at least three categories. Categories might be Health & Fitness, Education, Career, Romance, Spirituality, Wealth, Travel, Hobbies etc. 2. Each goal should be only one complete sentence. 3. Your short-term and mid-term goal in each category should be benchmarks towards your long term goal. Your goals in each category should correlate with each other. 4. Your long-term goals should be compatible. The achievement of one of your long-term goals should not prohibit the achievement of one of your other long-term goals. 5. Your goals must follow the SMART guidelines which are: Specific (How much? How Many? To what standard? ) Measurable (Can your success towards the goal be effectively determined?) Achievable (Is the goal something you have control or influence over? Do you have the needed talents, skills and resources to accomplish the goal or can you get them?) Relevant (Will it make a difference in your life?) Motivational authorities recommend that you write goals as though you have already accomplished them. Use present tense. 9. It is recommended by some that goals be written using action verbs rather than passive verbs (am, be). 10. Complete the following template and submit it.

My Goals
By: Emily Dalton 1st Category: Physical Health
Long-Term Goal Statement: I will achieve better physical health by exercising for 30 minutes a day, sleeping for longer periods of time, and meditating for 10 minutes three times a week for the rest of the semester. Mid-Term Goal Statement: I will achieve better health by sleeping longer; I will have at least eight hours of sleep a night. Short Term Goal Statement: I will meditate for 10 minutes three times a week for the rest of this semester.

Action Steps: (Identify the concrete things you plan to do to reach your short-term goal in this
category.) 1. Write the dates of when I will be meditating on my calendar. 2. Check up on my short-term goal often. 3. Find a quiet place and proceed to block out any distractions. 4. Set a specific time for the three days out of the week and do it. (ex. At 1600 everyday) 5. Drop whatever I am doing and work on my goal.

Narrative Statement: (How will your life look when you have achieved this long-term goal? This
will help you determine relevance and establish motivation.) I will have a mind at little more at peace as I try to deal with the stresses of life, school, and relationships. Not only is meditation good for your mental health, but it is also good for your physical being, problem solving, and temperament issues.

What obstacles will you need to overcome or what are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your long-term goal? (This step will help you determine achievability.) I will have to sacrifice soda, junk foods, and sugars. Also, Im going to have to cut out staying up late and waking up early. I will also overcome my temperament by obtaining stress-management.

I deserve this goal because: (This step will help you bolster your motivation.) 1. I deserve to be healthy for once. I am always taking care of others; it is time that I take care of myself. 2. I do NOT deserve to pay anymore medical bills and I deserve to spend my finances on things that I want to spend them on. I hereby commit to myself to achieve this goal. 2nd Category: Study Ethics


Long-Term Goal Statement: I will improve my study ethics so that I can achieve better grades and stress management. I will have this long-term goal mastered by the end of this semester. Mid-Term Goal Statement: I will balance my homework time, my relationship times, and my work time efficiently and effectively. I will not let a moment go to waste on Facebook or T.V. Short Term Goal Statement: I will improve my study skills by starting my assignments one day after it is assigned.

Action Steps: (Identify the concrete things you plan to do to reach your short-term goal in this
category.) 1. Take efficient notes as the professor is speaking. 2. Find a style of note taking that will fit my learning category. 3. I will not procrastinate anymore. I will begin an assignment as it is assigned 4. I will remember to bring my Martials for every class, and be ready to learn. 5. I will come with a positive attitude and a motivated mind set to every class. I will also leave my personal problems at the door.

will help you determine relevance and establish motivation.) My life will look stress free. I will be able to manage my study time more efficiently and reduce panic whenever I receive new assignments.

What obstacles will you need to overcome or what are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your long-term goal? (This step will help you determine achievability.) I will have to sacrifice a lot of my social life and family life in order to make time for the things I need most (College).

I deserve this goal because: (This step will help you bolster your motivation.) 1. I deserve to be stress free. 2. Because I deserve to get the full college experience for the cost of my tuition. I do not have time for failures or stresses. I hereby commit to myself to achieve this goal.

3rd Category: Cooking


Long-Term Goal Statement: I will become better at preparing meals by cooking home cooked meals three times a week for the rest of this semester. Mid-Term Goal Statement: I will find recipes and buy ingredients to prepare these three time a week meals and purchase them myself. Short Term Goal Statement: I will educate myself by cooking with my sister every other night until the end of the semester.

Action Steps: (Identify the concrete things you plan to do to reach your short-term goal in this
category.) 1. Be home every other night around dinner time to be ready to prepare a meal. 2. Review my goals often for staying on track 3. Watch cooking shows for inspiration. 4. by independently cooking myself. 5. Study recipes a few times a week when I have time.

will help you determine relevance and establish motivation.) My life will change dramatically after I find the realization of being able to fend for myself in a more healthy way.

What obstacles will you need to overcome or what are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your long-term goal? (This step will help you determine achievability.) The obstacles that I will not enjoy in this goal would be being home every night for dinner time. I love my little independence that I have and I dont enjoy being home very often.
