6-8th Grade Football Lesson 1 Focus o Rules, terms, and passing cues Objective o TSWBAT recite or demonstrate passing

sing cues to a partner at the end of class. Standards o 1,2,5,6 Assessment o The students will be reciting or demonstrating passing cues to a partner at the end of class. Students will also be doing a pre test so I can see what they do and do not know. Warm up (2min) o 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, and 10 jumping jacks Instruction (15min) o Pre test to see where the students are at. Each student will complete this on their own. o terms sheet, assign teams (competitive and non competitive), and unit outline Challenge Activity: Group juggling (8min) o Students are in groups of 5 and have 1 foam volleyball to pass around in a pattern. Once they have successfully established their pattern they may ask for more volleyballs. The goal is to try to get 4 volleyballs going at the same time. Passing o Cues (2 min) Student Demo Step opposite foot, opposite shoulder points, ball above the head, release, follow through. o End zone Football (15min) Teams are split up in to receivers and quarter backs. The point of the activity is to try to score as many touchdowns as possible. Once a student scores a touchdown they then yell out "Touchdown". If the student doesn't yell out touchdown or I can't hear it the touchdown doesn't count. Switch up Quarterbacks and receivers after 2 min. Switch positions multiple times for optimal opportunities to play both positions. Extensions Switch up teams Distances Assessment (3min) o Throwing cues Step opposite foot, opposite shoulder points, ball above the head, release, follow through.

6-8th Grade Football Lesson 2 Focus

o Defense and flag pulling Objective o TSWBAT describe the difference between zone and man defense during the assessment portion at the end of class. Standards o 1,2,5,6 Assessment o On an exit slip the students will describe and name one type of defense and how the activities relate to defense. Warm up (2min) o 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, and 10 jumping jacks Instruction (min) o Types of defense (3min) Zone defense Man to man defense Draw on the chalk board Challenge Activity (10min) o T pee shuffle in teams o Align by letter of first name o Activity is done silently Activity o Color Tag Flag pull (10min) When their flag is pulled join the pullers o Break through and conquer (15min) This game is very similar to capture the flag. There are three footballs on each side. The goal of the activity is to place their footballs into the three hula hoops before the other team pulls their flag. Once their flag is pulled they then have to go back to their hula hoops and they reenter the game. 2 minutes to discuss strategies in teams about defense and offense. Assessment (5min) o Discuss the types of defense and how did we use them in class today.

6-8th Grade Football Lesson 3 Focus o Review Defense, field lay out, passing, and catching cues Objective o TSWBAT describe what the different lines on a football field are at the end of class to another student. o TSWBAT identify what the different types of defense are and how they relate to our activities in class today. Standards o 1,2,5,6 Assessment o The students will explain what the line of scrimmage is and how off sides is related to the line of scrimmage.

Warm up (2min) o 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, and 10 jumping jacks Instruction (3min) o Review types of defense Zone and man o Field Lay out End zone, line of scrimmage, and out of bounds Challenge Activity (10min) o Tower Build- with a group of 3 build the tallest free standing tower with on single piece of paper. You are not allowed to use any sort of adhesive and you have 10 minutes to perform this activity. Activity o End zone Football (10min) Review Passing and Catching cues o Ultimate Football Outside or Walk outside laps (15min) To score a point, one must catch football past the end line. After a score, the football is given to the other team. A player must throw or toss the football up the field to try to score. If a player catches the football in the air they are allowed to keep possession. A player is allowed to take 2 steps with the football. If the football touches the ground, the last player to touch or throw it gives possession of football to opposite team. NO CONTACT!! Penalty, if contact is made. Not allowed to take football out of players hands. A player has 5 seconds to make a throw or a toss. An unlimited player on field as long as it is even with numbers on opposing team. Assessment (5min) o What is off sides and how does it relate to the line of scrimmage? o How did the tower build relate to football? What were so struggles or successes with it?
