4-8 Math

My Teaching philosophy:
The teachers place in the classroom is to prepare and guide students through their studies. The most important part of the students school career should focus primarily in their core studies, such as math, foreign language, reading, science, and history. Each student should be given a chance to focus on their individual needs and goals. Each student learns differently, and as a teacher I try to find the best way to teach my students. School should be a place for students to better understand themselves and find their place as they begin moving up in the world. Teachers and schools should emphasize academic rigor, discipline, hard work, and respect for authority. Schools should provide students with a firm grasp of basic facts regarding the books, people, and events that have shaped the nations heritage. Schools, above all, should develop students abilities to think deeply, analytically, and creatively. Education is not primarily about workers and the world economic competition; learning should be appreciated for its own sake, and students should enjoy reading, learning, and discussing intriguing ideas. I wish for my students to learn to not only learn and understand the material, but to also learn to love the content as well. Students can learn material better when they can understand the material in a real world sense. The gap between the real world and schools should be bridged through field trips, class and group projects, and adult mentors. Whether inside or outside the classroom, teachers must stress the relevance of what students are learning to real and current events. One of the biggest complaints I have heard about mathematics is that its just a bunch of numbers. They wont use this in real life. One of my goals is to teach students the true significance of mathematics and their education. The school curriculum should be designed by teachers to respond to the experiences and needs of the students. I also believe teachers should bring students to better understand the world around them. Education should enable students to recognize injustices in society, and schools should promote projects to redress social inequities. Teaching should mean more than simply transmitting textbook information. Teachers should help students understand themselves, appreciate their distinctive talents and insights, and find their own unique place in the world. Effective teachers help students to discover and develop their personal values, even when those values conflict with traditional ones. Teachers should teach without bias and help students find their own opinions.
