Metal daisy is an art sound installation based on Planofoni®
(Planephones.CRM, Rome). They are vibrating systems based on wood panels
(or other materials) and different forms. Planephones are not loud speakers,
they diffuse sound but with characteristics depending on the structure of
matter, on the design geometries, on the directions and curves of the
surfaces, on their volumes. They differ from conventional sound diffusion
systems, in that the sound acquires the timbrical quality of the material
employed and, in addition, by diffusing the sound homogeneously along the
surface, permits designing the acoustic space according to the architectural
space.
The term “Planephone” means ‘a plane that transmits sound’ and was
conceived to achieve two goals: the uniform diffusion of sound in space; the
music control of vibrational qualities of matter.
Metal daisy, especially adapted for the presentation at the Biennale in
Zagreb, attempts to create a resonating and concentrating ambience where
people can listen to the music composed by Laura Bianchini and Michelangelo
Lupone moving in the space.
The art sound installations designed by the composer Michelangelo Lupone,
are creations that integrate the music with the means of sound diffusion,
with the scenic and listening space. The installations represent one of the
innovations of contemporary musical language, since they vitalize a more
general process of transformation of the ways of fruition and composition of
the musical work.
