Planning and Preparation

SMART Goal: By the end of the 2013/2014 school year, I will design one formative assessment per math unit to administer in my third grade math class. Rationale I chose this goal because I really like to believe I know where my students are in terms of understanding, but sometimes I'm wrong. I'd like to have another checkpoint along the way so that I can help students understand the concepts before the summative assessment. Time Line I will work on this goal from January to May 2014. Instructional Strategies I will create this assessment with the other third grade teacher so it can be something we can both use in our classrooms. I will contact our district curriculum director for ideas on making formative assessments. Evidence/Artifact Sample assessment, student samples, and reflections

The Classroom Environment

SMART Goal: By the February of the 2013/2014 school year, I will create a word wall with frequently misspelled third grade words. Rationale I chose this goal because many of my students spell frequently used words incorrectly. With this word wall students will take responsibility to spell these words correctly by using the word wall and hopefully will remember how to spell these words by memory. Time Line I will work on this goal from January to February 2014. Instructional Strategies I will create this word wall with the frequently misspelled words from our spelling lists (two weekly) and from the words the students would like to have up there. I will also contact our district reading specialist for an idea of a list of words I can use for third graders. I will also create a student survey at the end of the school year about the word wall. Evidence/Artifact Picture of the word wall Student survey about the word wall

Classroom Instruction

SMART Goal: I will create one review game for each math and reading unit. Rationale I choose this goal because I want to give the students a better idea of questions they will be seeing on assessments. It is also a chance to get students to work together as a team. Time Line I will work on this goal from January through May 2014 Instructional Strategies I will create the review games by using example text questions. I will also get question ideas from the other third grade teacher in my building. Evidence/Artifact Review game questions Reflections on how the review game went

Professional Responsibilities
SMART Goal: I will call or email one parent weekly with one positive comment about their child. Rationale I chose this goal because I think its important to maintain positive communication with parents throughout the school year. If it wasnt for parent/teacher conferences I may never see or talk to the parents the entire school year. This will be a great goal for me to keep communication between the parents and me. Time Line I will work on this goal from January to May 2014. Instructional Strategies I will keep a log of positive interactions with my students so I have detailed information for my parents. I will keep a log of parents Ive contacted so I know which parents I should get ahold of each week. Evidence/Artifact Keep a log of phone calls made. Print out of parent emails.
