Unit 4 Circles, Polygons, and Angles Math Practice and Content Standards Geometry Classify two-dimensional figures into

categories based on their properties. 3. Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two-dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories or that category. 4. Classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties. Materials: Smartboard presentations for each lesson. CPS devices for Pre-Test and Post-Test. Worksheets 4-1 through 4-6. Unit 4 Pre-Test Given using CPS devices. Assess what students already know about material to be taught in unit. Lesson 4-1 Lines and Angles Objectives: Students will know how to identify and draw lines, rays, and line segments. Students will be able to measure angles. Students will be able to classify angles according to their measures. Procedure: Guided Practice Draw and name the characteristics of various lines, rays, and angles. Use a protractor to measure angles. Identify vertical, complementary, and supplementary angles. Independent Practice/ Assessment: Complete worksheet 4-1 with a grade of 85% or better. Lesson 4-2 Polygons and Angles Objectives: Students will be able to discover the total measure of the interior angles of triangles and of quadrilaterals. Students will be able to determine missing angle measures. Procedure: Guided Practice: Cut and arrange angles to discover the total measure of the interior angles of a triangle. Use a protractor to find the total measure of the interior angles of a quadrilateral. Independent Practice: Complete worksheet 4-2 with a grade of 85% or better. Lesson 4-3 Compare and Contrast Polygons Objectives: Students will know how to identify congruent polygons. Students will be able to sort and classify polygons.

Procedure: Guided Practice: Identify congruent polygons. Define, describe, sort, and classify polygons. Independent Practice/Assessment: Complete worksheet 4-3 with a grade of 85% or better. Lesson 4-4 Circles and Angles Objectives: Students will be able to identify angles of a circle. Students will be able to identify turns about the center of a circle. Students will be able to determine the position of an object after a turn or a series of turns. Procedure: Guided Practice: Discuss and draw various angles of a circle. Model turns of a circle. Independent Practice: Complete worksheet 4-4 with a grade of 85% or better. Lesson 4-5 Symmetry Objectives: Students will be able to recognize line symmetry and rotational symmetry. Students will be able to determine the position of an object after a turn or a series of turns. Procedure: Guided Practice: Review line symmetry and draw lines of symmetry on various figures. Discover rotational symmetry in a variety of figures. Independent Practice: Complete worksheet 4-5 with a grade of 85% or better. Lesson 4-6 Circle Graphs Objectives: Students will know how to read a circle graph, solve problems using a circle graph, and write questions about a circle graph. Students will be able to display the same data in different ways. Students will be able to determine angle measures to make a circle graph. Procedure: Guided Practice: Read a circle graph. Use data to make a circle graph. Display data different ways. Independent Practice: Complete worksheet 4-6 with a grade of 85% or better. Unit 4 Post-Test Given using the CPS devices. Shows progress of knowledge from before and after unit was taught.
