Guide to Teacher Professional Learning:

A study for the successful completion of Professional Semester III

Fellow teachers, I am coming to you with the hope that you will all support me in my final project for my internship here at Selkirk Secondary School. Within the Faculty of Education at the University of Lethbridge it is mandatory that each intern complete a project that can be left with the school upon the completion of the internship. It is left to us (the interns) to brainstorm and create a driving question, and devise strategies to complete said project. I am not sure how much was shared with you in the last staff meeting, but I have begun to develop a project that will hopefully enable each one of you to utilize technology or new technology based resources in an effective way within your classrooms. At the beginning of September I did a lot of prep in the staffroom, which ended up being very helpful in the creation of this idea. I heard quite a few conversations in passing that went along the lines of, I wish I had a resource to teach this on the SMARTboard, or I want a new way to engage students in this, and my mind began to ponder whether or not I could in some way help. This need is the driving force behind my future research. I will be spending the next few months digging to find any technology based resources you would have need for. On the next page please find a simplified diagram of my plan for the professional growth project I must complete.

Professional Learning Goal #1

Strategy: 1 Enable students to appropriately use personal devices within the classroom to expand on topics introduced within the classroom.

Guiding Question:
In what ways and to what extent does technology, when used effectively in the classroom, influence student engagement and learning in select Selkirk Secondary classrooms.

Strategy: 2 Educate and promote responsible usage of technology within school and in society by doing workshops on media smarts upon invitation by classroom teachers

Strategy: 3 Develop a usable website or list for Selkirk Secondary teachers with new and usable technology based resources for student learning. This will be broken up by subject.
