Awareness, Isolation of the sound , pt.2 Grade Level : Kindergarten Instructor: Tanya Martindale 2. Lesson Essential Question(s): Can we determine where the sound of this letter is located; on beginning or end of the word? 3. Standards: K.RI.7. With prompting and support, describe the relationship between illustrations and the text in which they appear (e.g., what person, place, thing, or idea in the text an illustration depicts). K.RF.2. K.RF.2.c. K.RF.2.d. Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes). Blend and segment onsets and rimes of single-syllable spoken words. Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (consonent-vowel-consonent, or CVC) words. (This does not include CVCs ending with /l/, /r/, or /x/.) K.RF.3. K.RF.3.a. Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary or many of the most frequent sound for each consonant. Associate the long and short sounds with common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels. K.L.2. K.L.2.c. Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. Write a letter or letters for most consonant and short-vowel sounds (phonemes).

4. A. Learning Objectives and Assessments: Students will be able identify whether the phoneme sound is at the beginning or the end of the word. Students will be able to associate phonemes with written letters

Students will be demonstrate theire knowledge of one to one letter sound.

B. Assessments: Materials: worksheets 1. Pre Lesson Assignment /Prior Knowldege: Do you remember when we learned about ending sounds of words. When we played the chanting game and we were able to recognize the ending sound of the word ? 2. Beginning Lesson: We will play a game similar to that game but I want you to tell whether you think, the sound of the word is associate with a letter on the end of the word or the beginning of the word. Lets Play? 3. Instructional Plan: Students will sit in a circle and the teacher will begin the lesson by stating that we will play a game similar to one we played before. The teacher will tell the student, that when we play the game; they will have two signals to use . One will be if they hear the sound at the beginning of the word and the other signal will be if the hear the sound at the end of the word. For this purpose the signal will be to put both arms up if it is in the beginning and cross your legs if it is at the end of the word. The teacher will give the students a key phoneme to listen for in the word. She will ask them where do you hear the / / , sound in the word? The teacher will play the game with several letters; with both beginning and ending sounds? After going through some letters and the students have gotten the idea; the teacher have pass out a worksheet where she will assess whether or not they have it by having them look at the picture and tell whether the sound of the letter is at the beginning or the end. If any children did not get the concept she will have them go through another lesson where she assist in small group discussion where she will concentrate on getting them to associate the sounds at the beginning or the end of the words.
