Student Choreography Showcase Dance Critique

On the 7th of December 2013, I was astonished by the excellent performances made by the Student Choreography Showcase at the Grand Arts Concert Hall. Although all were great performances two of the dances that stood out for me were Bully Proof and Steppin To The Hype. Both of these dances captured the emotions and communicated their theme very well with their performance.

Bully Proof had many emotional movements throughout the dance. The dancer was amazing. Her leaps, gliding, rolls, turns, etc were all very easy flowing, passionate, and energetic. She took the character into her hands and transferred all of her emotions on stage. Her attire was easy flowing and dark which helped set the mood to the story and made the movements seem flawless. The lighting of the stage was dark and captured the sad and heartbreaking mood to the music of To This Day.

Bully Proof dance started out smooth and peaceful but then transferred into an energetic, melancholic, and strong movement performance that precisely captured the words that were being said. Throughout the whole performance as the words were changing so was the dance. Without a doubt this dance was very touching and mournful.
