Vocabulary Subject- The person, place or thing that the sentence is talking about. Adjective- A word that describes a noun. Verb- A word that shows action.

Lesson Objectives Students will be able to Each create three W poems of their own After getting them proof read, make a final copy including a picture to represent their poem. Hear different types of poems written by famous authors. Students will then each present one of their poems to the class.

Materials Needed Paper Pencil/Pen Markers/colored pencils/crayons Books of poetry to read to the kids before the lesson

Anticipatory Set Today we are going to learn about poetry. We will all get to make three separate poems, each containing a subject, adjective, and a verb Instructional Input 1. First on your own, brainstorm some different subjects 2. Brainstorm adjectives that can be matched with those subjects 3. Brainstorm verbs that go along with each 4. Write out the words Who? What? Where? When? Why? each on separate lines 5. Have someone proof read your poems 6. Transfer your poem onto a final draft sheet of blank paper 7. Draw a picture that represents your poem Check for Understanding Questions to ask What are three parts of a grammar that are present in all sentences?
