T1= Term One (ending late November) T2-= Term Two (starting late November) 3. Attention- Getting Procedures Count Down from 5: I want your attention in 5-4-3-2-1 If you can hear me do this (finger trick) Pens Down, Eyes Forward and Hands on your Desk

4. Question/ Answering Procedures When asking or answering a question, students should: Raise their hand Wait to be called upon Give full attention to the person speaking Be contemplating the question or response given 5. Transition Procedures Start of Day- Read off any announcements/ Reminders. Pick up any forms/ important information. Start of Class- Go over class agenda/ Bell activity/ What did we learn yesterday Change of Activity- Follow the agenda and check off a finished activityState that we are going to move on to a new activity Dispersing Materials- I will hand out assignments or use a student volunteer. End of Class- Journals/ Exit Slips need to be handed in, and review homework/ what is needed for next class End of Day- Give out any announcements needed 6. Routine Procedures Late Arrival- After signing in at the office and obtaining a late slip, students need hand their late slip in to me. Depending on how late the student is, they should ask the teacher what they have missed and get to work. The later the arrival the more catch up work the student will need to do. Absence Procedures- After an absence a student needs to check with the teacher to see if he or she missed any tests or assignments (either handed out or to be handed in). If there is instructional information that the student has missed they need to get the notes from a classmate paired with questions answered by the teacher. Use of cell phones/Ipods- Use of cell phones or Ipods, Ipads, etc. will be allowed if it is part of productive class work. If it is a disruption then the technology will be taken for the remainder of the class. Student Illness in class- If a student has become ill in the class (depending on the severity) the student will be sent down to the nurses office and potentially sent home. Bathroom Breaks- Students must ask to go to the washroom and can only go once the other student is back. Bathroom breaks will be given out during work time, (I.E. not during instruction or presentation times) unless it is an emergency. Pencil Sharpening- Students must ask to use the pencil sharpener by raising their hand and asking politely. Appropriate time for sharpener use is during work time, NOT during instruction or presentation times.

Telephone Calls (student calling home for any reason)- If a student needs to call home for any reason they must ask the teacher and the phone call needs to be made at an appropriate time. The phone calls will be made from the classroom phone only. Seatwork Expectations- Main expectations are that each student is being productive, using their time wisely and respecting those around him or her. If a student is unsure what to do, use the method ask 3 then me. Free time Rules- If a student has finished all of their work (during a particular activity) then they can work on their final projects, journals, study, or read. Individual free time is just that individual so if you are finished you should not be disturbing the focus and learning of others around you. Late/Missing Homework or Assignments- Students are responsible for handing in all homework and assignments. If an assignment is late being handed in a student will have two quiet reminders and if a third reminder is needed then it will be a phone call home. Much of the homework in my class is either things that were not completed in class time and/or parts of a final assignment/project. Journals are to be completed and handed in at the end of every class (unless a student requests to take it home, in which case it must promptly come back to be used the next day). Fire Drills- Follows the school procedures Lockdowns- Follows the school procedures Building a Positive Relationship For the first two weeks the students will be set up in alphabetical order so that I am able to learn names as well as who the students are. After the first few weeks I can make a better judgment as to who should sit with whom and from that point on it will be switched between small groups to paired seating. Within the first day or so I would like to a couple of get to know you activities so that I can not only become familiar with the students but also so that the students become familiar with each other. These activities include: Travel Suitcase, 5 awesome things about me, knot game, etc. I like to show my students who I am, what I enjoy and what makes me who I am and this open door policy is key to establishing a bond. Establishing Classroom expectations is key to building a positive relationship with my students. By establishing what it means to be respectful that will be expected in the class then students are free to be open with one another.

My tone of voice is naturally loud. This comes in handy in a group/class setting. When I am working with students individually or even in a small group setting my tone of voice and body language will adjust to the smaller setting. If I am working with a student individually I prefer to get down to their level and really see what they are working on, if I am talking to a small group I prefer to keep a somewhat authoritative position simply by standing close enough so I can get a feel for what they are doing, if they are being productive and if they need any further guidance or prodding. In the case of an inappropriate behaviour I prefer to have a fair yet stern tone of voice so that the student knows Im not kidding around but also so that they know I still care.

Intervention/ Responding to Inappropriate Behaviour 1. Classroom Rules Rule 1. Respect For Yourself - Use your time wisely - Be in control of your own body - Use kind words in self-talk - Positive Attitude - Be on time - Be prepared 2. Respect for Others - Respecting others personal property - Use kind words when talking with another person - Respect others person i.e. keep your hands to yourself - Respect others time- allow them to do their work - Be kind - Use positive language 3. Respect for your Environment -Treat your classroom with care: desk, books, posters, utensils, etc. -Treat your school with care- i.e. grounds, lockers, doors, walls, bathrooms, etc. Consequence - Usually not respecting yourself lends itself to its own consequence - Tardiness will be dealt with as stated above - Not respecting another person will be separated from others and work alone - Private discussion with the teacher

- Take responsibility for your actionsusually you get into more trouble from not taking responsibility - Student will be talked to privately with teacher - Student will have to phone parents and explain their actions - If you spill something- clean it up - If you write on something you will be washing it - Depending on the severity of the

action it will be dealt with by administration

2. Strategies for dealing with Inappropriate Behaviour 1. Talking- Are you respecting others by talking while others are talking/ working and wasting your time?- Talk to the student privately 2. Off Task- Are you respecting yourself by being off task and wasting your time?- Talk to the student privately 3. Name Calling- Excuse me that is inappropriate and you are breaking our rule of respecting others- Talk to the student privately 4. Pushing/Shoving- Get the students attention Excuse me have the students separate and talk to each one privately. Express that they are not respecting one another and depending on the severity have the students call home to explain to their parents and/or send students to the office. 5. Running in class/hall- Get their attention- stern voice Excuse me You need to respect your school, walk in an orderly fashion. 6. Swearing- If the swearing is mild and not directed towards anyone then I will talk to them about how it is inappropriate language. If the swearing is mild and directed towards another student then I will be talking to the student individually about respecting others and using kind language. If the swearing is directed at the teacher, then the student will be sent to the office. 7. Copying someone elses work- Talk to the student individually and ask how copying is helping them learn, as well as how they are showing respect to themselves and to the person who wrote the notes. 8. Taking things that dont belong to them- Talk to the student individually and ask how stealing shows respect to the person who owns the thing. Depending on the severity it may need to be dealt with by administration or police. 9. Writing on or scratching the desks and other classroom furnitureStudents will clean what they wrote after class hours and an individual talk with students regarding respect to their environment. If the desk is scratched up it is possible cause to visit the office. Which is considered defacing school property.
