PROJECT PROPOSAL MODULE 2 Project Title Faculty Technology Training Sponsoring Organization Herzing University Online The purpose of the faculty technology training is to assist faculty on gaining a better understanding in how to utilize technology in their online classroom environment and for deliver a higher quality of online learning to our students. Project Description The goal of the training proposal is to provide faculty with a understanding of understanding in the use of technology, such as webcams, blackboard collaborate, stimulations, flashcards, interactive lessons, power point and other software. In doing so, faculty will be able to provide a better online classroom environment which will foster a more engaging environment for students. Aim The objective of the training proposal will help faculty become more equipped with the latest use of online/classroom technologies. Faulty will also be able to benefit by gaining more professional development opportunities. Target Audience Faculty adjunct and Department Chairs Delivery Options The delivery method will involve both online and some face to face training.

FRONT-END ANALYSIS: INSTRUCTIONAL NEED MODULE 3 Instructional Need Teaching students in a new age technology world has begun to have new factors for todays online classroom learning needs and student engagement. Many of todays learners have some sort of technology experience, whether through internet, computer, iPod, cell phone, electronic devices etc. As an online faculty adjunct it is important to integrate technology into the curriculum, course design and live classroom environment in order to enhance student learning. No longer are the days of just using Microsoft PowerPoint, because students interact with everyday use of technology in a business and or social setting. Many faculty experience high level apprehension when charge with integrating technology into their course environment because of the unfamiliarity and lack of technology experience. If implementing more technology into the class environment has the possibility to change and or increase student learning this will in turn have a positive impact on enrollment, retention as well as preparing our students for their future career professions.

Contextual Analysis Orienting Context The goal for faculty involves applying the knowledge learned in a real course environment. The faculty have very limited to no experience in the use of implementing technology in an online course environment. Many of the faculty has only explored Microsoft PowerPoint, however some struggle with recording audio even without PowerPoint. Each faculty adjunct will be responsible for attending one online training and one face to face training. Failure to do so, may result in no further future teaching contract. Instructional Context Via Web and Face to Face Audio Head set Teleconferencing dial-in Training room (seating for 250) Whiteboard, Flip chart Transfer Context The training will be transferable via web through interactive tool, teleconference and face to face.

Faculty will have the opportunity to use the information to enhance their individual professional development. Skills gained will afford faculty the opportunity to offer a more engaging class environment. The Curriculum and Instructional design department and Information Technology

INSTRUCTIONAL IMPACT BASED UPON LEARNER CHARACTERISTICS Application of Adult Learning Theories The best way to apply adult learning theories is to first identify the faculty internal and self-directed motivation. Most faculty will want to know how the training will directly benefit their individual growth, profession and student educational outcomes. Impact of a Diverse Audience on Instruction Due the amount of faculty a few unseen issues may occur. The training must expose the faculty to tools that are beneficially and applicable. As the instructional designer my job will involve keeping the audience attention and presenting easily understood information. The online training as well as face to face should be engaging and exciting in order to gain the buy in of the faculty. Another important point involves focusing on staying away from repetition such as presenting content faculty are already accustomed to i.e. Microsoft PowerPoint. Especially, since many faculty will already be familiar with Microsoft PowerPoint. During the course of the training it is also important to have fun, implementing some sort of game and or interactive tools will become key in ensure faculty feel a sense of involvement.

TASK ANALYSIS MODULE 5 Instructional Need: To develop a faculty training course on the use of technology in online classroom environment. REFLECTION PAPER 1. ID model selected and why The selection of the (faculty technology training) ID model was made because their a need to increase faculty technology use in the online classroom environment for a better student experience. Many faculty fear implementing technology tools due to lack of awareness and knowledge, however as the increasing use of technology, and or social media impacts our everyday lives. In order to keep up with the latest trends faculty training is needed. 2. Decisions made along the way with the model The decisions made along the way involved which direction to go when organizing the appropriate pedagogical scenarios in order to achieve the instructional goal (introducing faculty to new technology tools to enhance the student experience and level of engagement). 3. Motivational theories employed & Learning theories utilized In this instructional design cognitive theory is employed. I selected this theory choice, because I want to create motivation which develops the learners intention and achievement. I want to engage the faculty and allow a level of empowerment. The cognitive theory functions on an individual desire of success. If the faculty can see the incentive in learning new technology tools for their own professional development, they will also become more willing to implement in the classroom environment. 4. What learning theories do you subscribe to and why? I always subscribe to two of my favorite learning theories. Cognitive: I subscribe to cognitive because I feel this theory applies best in higher education. Information processing is not only key for our students but also faculty. The cognitive theory provides real life context and allows the learner to use their mind as a way process the information. Connectivism: I subscribe to connectivism because this theory really allows the learner the opportunity to recognize and connected the information for processing. This theory also allows the individual to self-direct in decision making. Connectivism theory grants the learner freedom within their own thoughts and opinions. 5. How do the task analysis and learner characteristics affect the learning theory employed, if at all? I believe the task analysis and learner characteristics can affect the learning theory if not conducted correctly. The task analysis and learner characteristics go hand and hand. Without knowing the learner characteristics how can the instructional designer move forward with task analysis and other key instructional design components. 6. Instructional strategies selected and justification Modeling is the instructional strategy selected. Modeling allows the learner to process the information through learning strategies and skills. The online trainings and face to face trainings will engage the faculty and present the opportunity to demonstrate technology tools through activities and group interactions.

7. Reason of evaluation type and implication of results (what will you do with the results?) The evaluation type will involve a key survey for student feedback and well as blackboard statistic tracking analysis. The reason for selecting the key survey is simply easy. The best way to gain feedback is to create a simply, limited questions survey. I want to ensure the survey doesnt become overwhelming and long. Keeping the survey short and to a limited number of questions will help to gain the feedback needed without overwhelming the survey taker. Blackboard statistical tracking will provide a log on number of student views for each technology tool. This information becomes helpful in knowing if the learner(s) have truly engaged in any of the technology tools. 8. What are some significant ways in which you will expand the use of instructional design in your current position? After implementing the faculty technology training, I would also like to explore the organization overall training and development employee trainings. Currently, there no training department, but training is vital to the success of employee development and student retention. I could expand the use of instructional design in other areas of the organization. I firmly believe as a result of future instructional design projects the company will also better retain employees. 9. What were the most valuable concepts/ideas gained during the course? The most valuable concepts/ideas learned and or gained from this course involved gaining a better understanding on exactly the true meaning of instructional design. I was able to learn the instructional design focus. Through my understanding of the initial term, I also learned other learning theories such as: cognitive, behavioral and constructivism learning. I learned these learning theories play a huge role within each instructional design model(s). The learning theories are applied into the instructional design model(s) because the theories help to identify how people learn, feel and reaction to learning. I believe this was the most valuable experience for me. I didnt realize how deep the concepts relate to the human mind, behaviors and feelings. 10. What was the most valuable, most fun, or most interesting activity during the course? I would have to say the ID Competencies and Job Research was the most fun and interesting activity during the course. Reason: I was able to conduct research on the current instructional designer job descriptions, competencies and required experiences. I gain a better understanding on what exactly employers are looking for in future employees. This information helped me to create a list of skills and qualities which I must attain in order to move into an instructional design position. I was able to then take the self-reflection/inventory to focus on my areas of improvements. 11. How will this course impact your instructional design? This course will impact my instructional design because I am now able to identify what makes a good instructional designer. The first big aha-moment for me was to first understand how people learn. In order to success conduct any training, the learners must first be taken into consideration. Everyone learns differently as well as processes information differently. This course will help me to remember the important steps involved within instructional design. I believe this course will help

14

to develop a much stronger and solid instructional design. I should have a clear idea as to the types training plan needed, assessment tools to utilize, budget cost, and implementation process. 12. What questions/concerns do you have about using instructional design? Here are a few questions I have regarding instructional design: What happens when the project development doesnt solve the organization problems? E-learning is expensive how do you implement training when cost plays a huge factor? Often times in the business world its not about what the learners know, but what they are going to do with the information. How do you help the learners see the value and benefit in the training? Many times faculty want to see the value and understand the importance of knowing information. How do I create a training plan to make sure the information sticks and directly relate to teaching strategies?

13. Where will you go to answer these questions/concerns? For questions and concerns I will first navigate back to my instructional design materials from this course and others. If I still have additional questions I will contact the Deans or Campus President for direction and guidance.
