Colton Jamison ALE Reflection Within the discipline During my internship I dealt a lot with people.

Although there are no classes directly related to dealing with people there are several that helped me. The first and most important class to help me was my animal science classes. The majority of my internship was helping with stock show projects. With out animal science classes I wouldve been clueless. The second class that helped me help people was applied analysis class. Several times during my internship I helped people with a computer. I made excel spreadsheets, power points, and typed documents. The last class that helped me was my industry methods class, this class prepared me to join the work world. Although an internship isnt considered the work world, this class prepared me to plan on my future career. Beyond the discipline There are many classes that helped me that go beyond my major requirements. The first class to really help me during my internship was speech class. Speech prepared me to talk in front of groups of people and communicate effectively. The second class that helped me was psychology; psychology helped me during my internship because it helps you understand how and why people act. The third class outside my discipline that helped me during my internship was biology. Biology, along with animal science helped me understand animals and plants and how life works. Beyond academics During my internship I realized that there are other factors besides my education that Im going to have to rely on. The first experience that helped me during my internship was my previous work experience. My previous work experience has taught me to be on time, listen to my boss, and be productive at work. These experiences helped me earn respect from my internship supervisor. The second experience that helped me succeed during my internship was my fondness of working with kids. During my internship I worked a lot with 4-H kids, and having younger cousins and nephews helped me figure out ways to communicate with them, and help make things fun to them. Interconnectedness During the time of my internship I relied on my education as well as my real world experiences everyday. I used my Agriculture education to help with the scientific aspect like treating animals, evaluating plants for diseases. I used my basic courses outside agriculture to connect all my education together. Lastly I used my real world experience outside of education to bring things Ive learned outside of school.

Global awareness My experiences during my internship at Texas a&m Agrilife extension have helped me see everyone as equal. People of all types came to our office to receive help, and I learned to help everyone the same. Treating everyone the same eliminates bad stereotypes and makes our working world a lot better. Broader implications This internship has taught me a lot. It has taught me professionalism, respect of others, and how to manage in the real world from day to day. My education has prepared me for this and my experiences have given me the way to interconnect it all.
