Week 3 Assignment 1. Pages 147-156 of our textbook outline assumptions from the learning and performance paradigms.

Choose one, and discuss how it relates to your own experience. How is the assumption you chose important to the HRD field? 2. Chapter 7 seeks to define the core assumptions of the learning and performance paradigms, and Swanson believes that "HRD is probably best served by the integration of the two paradigms" (p. 161). Do you agree with Swanson's belief? Why or why not? 3. Why do you think organizations are hesitant to invest financially in good HRD interventions? 4. Do you think that performance models like the ones in Chapter 8 are useful/beneficial to an organization? This last question is from Chapter 9 Reflection Questions, but I really liked it so am including it: 5. Do you believe that organizations can learn? Or, are organizations merely the sum of individual learning? Take a position and explain.

Discussion Recap: This weeks readings dealt heavily with learning and performance, deciphering between the two, and applying these themes to HRD. The discussions from this week stimulated in-depth thought and resulted in conclusions that were beneficial to all. Particularly, the applications of the learning and performance paradigms to our own experiences were both interesting and helpful in providing different perspectives to break down and understand the paradigms contextually. Overall, I believe the discussion and the thoughts produced were proof that the group obtained an exemplary understanding of the material from the week.
