Tell them to DECIDE NOW to FULLY CLEAN UP the West Valley

Nuclear Waste Site

Tell these Decision-Makers we need an immediate decision to

dig up the waste so it cannot spread into our water and the
Great Lakes.

MAIN MESSAGE:

Make the decision now for full cleanup of the West Valley Nuclear Waste Site -- for
the sitewide removal alternative, total waste excavation

Heavy rain and flooding last week eroded a wall of Buttermilk Creek causing a
landslide bringing the Creek closer to the radioactive waste trenches in just one
day!

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS IF TIME ALLOWS:

Oppose leaving buried waste on site. Oppose Phased Decision-Making (the agency
preferred alternative): which will delay cleanup of ~ 99% of the site's radioactivity
for up to 30 years. 1% cleanup is not enough.
Written Comments should be directed to www.westvalleyeis.com the official
site for comments.

Background:

The cleanup options described in a Draft Environmental Impact Statement

(DEIS) are now open for comments at www.westvalleyeis.com and DOE in
conjunction with NYSERDA will decide whether to dig it up or leave the decision
and study it over the next 30 years. The Department of Energy and NYSERDA
“prefer” to clean up only 1% now but take over 30 years to decide what to do with
99% of the radioactive waste, banking on it not leaking while they decide. A 1%
cleanup is not enough.
