PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN Jan Rodriguez Fall 2013 PROFESSIONAL PHILOSOPHY (How do you want to convey the type

e of professional you are?): By working hard, having the initiative to get tasks done before I am told, give my best efforts in my workplace, and put my knowledge and networking skills into practice. Propose new ideas to obtain, faster and more efficient results for different plans/projects. Volunteer for any help needed at my office in order to demonstrate my capabilities and my skills under different situations. Portray myself as an independent, well-informed, and mature employee who knows what he wants and has a set of realistic obtainable goals. I. PROFESSIONAL GOAL (Long Term):
Become a lawyer. Be involved with different types of policymaking that would affect the future generations for the better. KNOWLEDGE/UNDERSTANDING:

II. Objective: To develop a strong and professional networking system A. Activities: 1. Participate in different events related to my interests. 2. Introduce myself to my superiors in a professional way. 3. Let my work speak for itself. B. Evidence: 1. Partaking on my first internship. 2. Getting to know all my colleagues. C. Target Date: 1. December 2013 III. Objective: Expand my knowledge on politics, Latin America, and understanding relations
between U.S. and Latin America. Also, attend Law School eventually. A. Activities: 1. Officially obtain my degrees on Political Science and Latin American Studies. 2. Apply to different law schools. 3. Get some work experience, so that I can start evaluating different opportunities. B. Evidence: 1. Taking courses through the WII to obtain my remaining credits. 2. Study for the October 5th LSAT. 3. Learn from the different departments, and conferences I attend. C. Target Date: 1. December 2013 IV. Objective: Networking with work related people A. Activities: 1. Create strong and lasting relations with professionals in my field. B. Evidence:

Objective: Keep learning from all the different aspects and perspectives on my interests A. Activities: 1. Stay tuned to all the events and information regarding Latin America, foreign policy, and
international law. B. Evidence: 1. Read the different news papers that cover the Latin American region 2. Study foreign policy and learn how it affects Latin America 3. Attend every possible conference or talk in DC with related themes C. Target Date: December 2013 PROFESSIONAL OBJECTIVES:

VI. Objective: While working at Partners, learn from the different Fellows coming from Latin America A. Activities: 1. Ask the different professionals how different do they see their work here from back home 2. Evaluate what I could do in the future if I go to another country B. Evidence: 1. Interview the Fellows to obtain a vis--vis response from their experiences C. Target Date: November 2013 VII. Objective: Become a respected lawyer, or work at an international level A. Activities: 1. Grow professionally until I feel accomplished with myself and I can have the ability to
replicate my knowledge to teach others how do it 2.Excel and try new opportunities that may come to me, for example, traveling abroad for work B. Evidence: 1. Never stop my learning process by reading reliable news sources, reading recognized profound, thoughtful, and challenging to the status-quo books. 2. Keep an open mind for any future positions; strongly consider my options, and not make quick decisions. C. Target Date: Hopefully, none

SKILL/TECHNICAL OBJECTIVES:

VIII. Objective: Fully develop my Portuguese skills A. Activities: 1. Read Brazilian/Portuguese poetry 2. Keep up with Brazilian news by reading online newspapers 3. Listen to music in Portuguese B. Evidence: 1. Translate letters at Partners 2. Read books on Portuguese without needing to double-check every sentence 3. Have an engaging conversation with one of my Brazilian friends.

X. Objective: Become an organized person A. Activities: 1. Find the best way to organize my schedules and tasks 2. Force myself to write down everything I need to do in order to make it a habit B. Evidence: 1. Bought an agenda to carry with me all the time 2. Add my schedule to my phone, so that it can remind me in case I forget C. Target Goal: December 2013

Already created a running schedule 2.Created a group of friends to start playing at the soccer field in Cristal City C. Target Date: September 2013 XII. Objective: Learn how to iron my shirts A. Activities: 1.Get my roommate to teach me because I have never done it before 2. Practice every week B. Evidence: 1. Already started seeing how he does it in the mornings 2. Bought the starch for it 3. Proper ironed shirts by the end of the semester C. Target Date: September 2013 XIII. Objective: Expand my cooking skills A. Activities: 1.Take advantage of my other roommate who works in a restaurant B. Evidence: 1.Cook with him side by side and take notes of all of the new recipes that he shows me. C. Target Date: December 2013

Activities: 1.Understand that not everybody is like me 2.Not yelling at my roommates for letting a mess at the apartment B. Evidence: 1.Wrote down a set of rules where all of us agreed to keep the apartment clean to avoid
confrontations C. Target Date: September 2013 CULTURAL OBJECTIVES:

XV. Objective: Travel all the countries in Latin America A. Activities: 1. Save money and try to establish a route that would make my travels comfortable B. Evidence: 1. Already traveled to several countries in South America, but I still want to get stamped at
places like Argentina, Per, and Brazil. C. Target Date: 2016

XVI. Objective: Visit Eastern Europe with a friend A. Activities: 1.Travel to Ukraine, Moldova, Azerbaijan, and Georgia B. Evidence: 1.Pictures, go to European football matches C. Target Date: By 2020 XVII. Objective: Expand my palate A. Activities: 1. Try not to say no to any kind of food, and enjoy it. B. Evidence: 1. Get together every Friday with different people in the building to share some food and try
different flavors. C. Target Date: September 2013
